Hello Honda world enlighten me with your knowledge
Recently I was told that I could put 15w50 in the crankcase of my b18c engine. I went along and did it in an effort to slow the oil my car kept burning(5 quarts a in 2 weeks). In that week I figured out it was valve stems and was going to do valves that weekend. One day going to work I was experiencing issues. the car wasn't performing like it was before. mind you it had good compression on all cylinders. when I got to the parking lot of my job my car started bogging out. I knew it wanted to give out, I kept giving it gas till I got to a stop quickly. It wasn't going to turn off on its own, but I still shut it off when I parked. after work I got a ride home, then came back and changed the oil to 5w30. started it up and I hear "TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK". I was so angry at my self for being so stupid. I wanted someone to smack me across the head for listening to a "Professional V8 head Mechanic".
so I went home and changed the spark plugs, and I find oil on the bottom of the spark plug in cylinder 2(all the other looked fine. So I changed the plugs and started the car for a little bit. I turned it off then checked the plug and I found that it smelled like gasoline. it was even sort of dripping a little gasoline. so I know my rings are shot and are probably scoring my cylinder walls. The compression in cylinder 2 is 100 when originally it was 175.
Now what the million dollar question for me is, Should I get new rings and just hone my block, or should I bore to 81.25 with a new piston kit Now here's the thing, I only have a budget set for a block build. This car was originally my daily driver for the past year and a half. I cant go long without this car I am getting it fixed within a month or two hopefully not more. when I get my block back I'm going to just put it right back where it was. I do not have the resources nor the finance to afford a new head build.
I'm just going to buy the important things like ARP head studs, cosmetic head gasket, varies Honda oem washers, Type R oil pump and maybe other goodies. I just want to fix the most important which is my ticking block. Some people say you can put the stock head back on, and ill still be good as long I don't boost or Rev to 9k all day(I'm not going to tune my car to rev like a mad man). Then i have a bunce of old timers telling me that I might as well build the head to, or at least change the valve seals. i will change my valve seals. but purchasing the equipment to put into my head is just to much money for to afford right now. I have to buy cams, camshaft, valves, valve springs, valve retainers, valve followers, and a whole bunch of other ****. The head is going to have to wait his turn.
So tell what you guys think. Someone please let me know the road that I'm taking. Am I making any mistakes? is there anything else I should change in the block that not to crazy expensive. I'm already 2500 deep in my block and I just finished my gsr tranny that I haven't even put in yet. I will begin a build tread as soon as I figure out this websites bizarre form of posting forums.
