Default K20z3 in EP3 transmission help...

so I have an EP3 but has a K20z3 in there. I wanna swap out the tranny because the speedo doesn't work (obviously) and so I saw an 03 type s tranny on craigslist that I'm thinking about getting only because I want to swap out the tranny housing so I can get the speedo running correctly. Am I wrong to say that that's possible or are there more variables to getting that completed? I want to keep the gears from the k20z3. Help me peeps. Car's been sitting for over a year since my ECU got stolen and now I'm getting Kpro. Any help would be appreciated.

Why don't you buy the speedo healer and just change the signal to make the transmission VSS work? It would be cheaper

Yeah I'm actually interested in seeing how that works. I was read somewhere that there would need to be some drill and hole tapping if I'm not mistaken. I really need to get my car going and going cheaper is definitely an option I intend on take also.
