Default Camshafts(S2T2) installation question.

So i'm ready to install my tuner 2 camshafts and go get my set up tuned BUT I need to get to my tuners first(2 hour drive). So my question is can I install them and just disconnect the vtec solinoid plugs(thus no vtec) and drive down i have the springs and retainers installed all ready and will set ignition timing along with mechanical before I go. I live in the middle of no where so this 2 hour drive really is a must.

Ask your tuner to supply you with a map that will allow you to make the drive.

One option is to drive there with stock cams and install the trick cams in situ (there).

You should fine as long as you keep it below 20% throttle (very light load)cruising only, no full throttle runs.

Well I have a date set:may the 16th 1 1/2 hour drive. I have the s2 alpha springs + retainers just too add. would that make it ok just so long as I stay out of vtec(un plugging it to be safe)

Ok dumb question but can you drop these cams in and just run around with them I keep seeing(ppl in the civic section) just installing them and driving around till "I get a tune" . just want to know can you do this not tracking or anything like that just my DD

have Springs+ retainers already in.

Tune never happened (clutch+flywheel went along with breaks and needed to pay for school)

Don't pay attention to the idiots in the civic section running around with high compression pistons/larger cams/larger injectors on a stock ECU.

Get a tune if you install the cams.

Simple answer.
Can you drive around with the new cams untuned?
Yes.

Should you?
I wouldn't.

I don't understand why so many people overlook tuning.

Would it be the same deal with a "base mapped" ECU ? I know it's not good just need to get down to said tuner's shop when I get the $. What does it do damage wise make it run rich/lean ???

Heh. My friend, I think that this is the end to answering your questions. That's like asking if you get shot... exactly what kind of damage to the body should you be expecting when it happens.... Does it really matter? No... Because you just got shot!!!

Now, take it easy, drive slow, and go get tuned.. or tow it..

If you don't have the skill to program an ECU, you'll likely have problems even if the baseman is good. There are many things that could be off and you'll have no idea what is the cause. I know this from experience working you peeps.

With ITR cams you might have a chance. Many, many tuners can't hang with cams requiring big deviations from stock cam pattern. Seen it over and over.
