New Brakes and Rotors Scraping
I just had new ceramic disc brakes and new rotors put on my 2006 Honda Civic. I bought the parts from Auto Zone, and had a neighbor (who is a Honda mechanic) put them on. Now there is a contstant scraping sound whether the brakes or applied or not. The mechanic said the rotors were a little big for the car and not made to Honda's specifications. He said that they normal driving would wear the rotors down and the noise would go away. Is this going to mess up my car? Are there any safety concerns I should be aware of? The brakes work fine, but the noise makes me very nervous. I hear it more during turns while driving and it's off and on while riding in a straight line down the road.
Check the backing plate, it might be bent and touching the rotor, check to see maybe a rock dirt or anything is caught up there. If its the backing plate just bend it back and it should be fine
I had Auto Zone double check the parts they gave me and they assured me they were the correct parts. I'm taking it to Meineke this morning to get it checked. I've driven 800 miles since I had them put on and the noise is still there. I will update what I find out. Thanks for all of your help.
The pads could be stuck in the brackets to tightly. Sometimes the pads are a little out of speck and to tight, in which case you can grind off some of the excess metal or paint so they move freely within the bracket.
