Icon6 90 Honda Accord back fires and trys to die cant figure it out

ok so I have a 90 accord coupe auto ex, it started this clicking thing, when it clicks it sounds like popcorn going off and acts like it wants to die but has only died once in three weeks. if I press the accelerator very little it runs alittle better not as much popping but like I said as soon as you try and press it down to go fast it spits and sputters. we have replaced the fuel pressure regulator, and just replaced timing belt but didn't change a thing. I am so lost in to trying to figure this out. the clicking sounds like it is from right behind the dash on upper fire wall. after the speed of 50 it seems to run ok not the best but not as bad as it is when it shakes back fires and trys to die. Could this be a cat converter? o2 sensor? maybe my intake? I really need my mobile so if anyone has ideas I am open to suggestions of any kind. thanks for the time.

Ya, you need to have your exhaust system tested for a clog.

As a temp test, you can remove the oxygen sensor and connector and see if it idles better. If it does then it's the exhaust clogged up.
