98 CRV Stalls/Burning Smell
Hi All!
I'm new here, hopefully posting in the right place. My son has a 1998 CRV EX with 205K on it. We recently had to replace the top end of the exhaust a week ago and install another new catalytic converter after having a P0420 code 3 days ago. After this it ran great for 2 days. Now all of a sudden he's stalling out around 20-30 MPH after the engine gets warmed up (5+ miles of driving) and tonight we got a new symptom of a burning smell. I wasn't there to smell the odor, but the boy says he couldn't nail the smell due to a sinus infection. I did check the plugs, wires and hoses -just to make sure it wasn't something having been knocked loose by the exhaust shake. There are zero codes showing.
I truly am at a loss here. The stalling symptom was there before the exhaust was fixed and the cat was replaced. It stopped for a day after the exhaust fix and 2 days after the cat. It is now beyond what it was in terms of how severe it has gotten.
Thanks in advance!
(Additional history - 2010 new cat, oxygen sensors, & distributor; new plugs & wires in 2012).

Update - we pulled the up stream o2 sensor and replaced it again. The burning smell seems to have dissipated - I never did smell this, so goodness only knows what it was. The car is still stalling after 5+ miles of driving. It's like it just looses power. We're doing the fuel filter tomorrow (since it's due anyway) - but now I'm wondering about the fuel pump? Still no codes so I'm still very much at a loss. I see many have read the original post - any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Test the ignition coil.
Specs are...Primary Winding 0.63 - 0.77 ohm
Secondary Winding 12.8 - 19.2k ohm
These are the specs, with temperature at 68 degrees...if it's colder it will read lower and higher with increased temperature.

Looks like it was the ignition module. Since it's a part of the distributor that we bought 2 years ago with a lifetime replacement, I just swapped the whole thing out. It's running a little rough, but I didn't get a chance to put it on until after dark tonight so I didn't get the timing set yet. I'll have to do that tomorrow when I have some day light... Thanks!
