Icon2 Limits of .48AR Turbo exhaust

Once my new block is installed, I plan to turn up the boost. I am at 293 right now with 14 psi, I pretty much want to max out the turbo, get it to the most efficient spot and call it a day. The turbo is a precision t3 t04e 60 trim .48ar

My goal with this turbo, is 400whp-450whp. Ive seen a couple threads with some people pushing a little over 400 to the wheels on a .48ar, I want to know if this can be done? Also, anyone have any idea how much boost I can get out of my turbo? I've seen some set ups running 25-26 psi, but I'm sure each set up is different.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

what motor setup? whats your redline?

i heard .48 chokes up pretty bad up top. im not sure youll be able to reach your goal but maxing out a turbo wont put it in its " efficiency " range. why the .48 though? you just want boost that fast?

b18b1, currently redlining at 7k, gonna up it to roughly 7500 once I get tuned.

exactly. I am going to find the turbos most optimal boost in the higher range and stick with that.

Yes, I bought it for quicker spool. I started at 7psi, then went to 14psi. I tried to put a larger exhaust housing on it before. The exducer would fit but it would not spin, so I sold it. Ive been looking to get another turbo, but I rather see how far I can take this turbo.

Depends. What turbine wheel and compressor side.

Looks like some people have had some good power on them, 450whp+ with a 60 trim, .48 exhaust. So I don't think I should worry. I am going to guess my turbo will be at its sweet spot around 420whp

Rule of thumb, anything above 300hp you should be running .63AR.

well I don't understand why a turbo would have this size exhaust housing if it can only use half of its potential.

wait for TheShodan to chime in. he will explain it all. if not PM him. But me personally, even if i wanted a super quick spool id shoot for a little more top end then " quick spool. " do you have valvetrain?

Because some people dont care about peak HP numbers and a smaller housing will spool faster and give you more low end and mid range power and fall off a little up top. But with the right wheel combination yoou can carry the torque curve longer even with the smaller turbine housing and still obtain better midrange torque. With an 7500rpm redline assuming this is an LS it would work well as they nose dive up top anyhow

agreed. If I had a vtec head, I would be worried. I appreciate your help.

yeah see how torque and hp are falling off toward peak rpm thats what you will experience. really it will keep the same power curve as a stock ls just more power

which is fine until I can afford a built head, which I see on CL for 400.. but idk if its worth it.
