Default Mac's 94 EG Hatch Build

I've always wanted an EG hatch for years.. even when I had my 1996 EJ6 sedan in the early 2000's. I drive about 72 miles a day for work and 18mpg in my truck wasn't cutting it. I searched for months and finally decided to buy a hatch of my own. I purchased a 94 Civic DX on 4/16/13.

This thread will be my slow progress on building up my hatch. As I mentioned; I bought it for fuel economy. That's not going to stop me from having a bit of fun with it though.

When I went to look at it:

Brought it home on 4/16 and cleaned it up a bit

It still wasn't clean enough for me... so...

I was told when I went to get it inspected that it won't pass. The holes in the rear quarters need to be patched, I need a cat installed (thankfully its only visual here in my part of PA), brake light was out (soaked the coroded socket in citric acid overnight and it looks/works like new), and I also need new tires. I don't like the wheels the came with the car; so why get new tires for it? I'll post updates on Thursday when they arrive.

As for the rust in the rear quarters... I'm going to be ordering new panels later this year, but for right now I needed a fix to pass inspection.

Its not the best solution, but I'll be spraying it with paint to match the car until I get my parts ordered.

I'll be posting more as time/money allows. Summer is my busy season running around everywhere.

I thought I would update this a little bit more. I really haven't done that much except for bust up my knuckles putting the interior pieces back in and get it ready to pass inspection.

I installed the cat on 4/22. After I was done I found out my axle back piping was cracked. This is becoming more and more of a project now. So now after I redo the suspension I'm going to have to redo the exhaust. As I mentioned before, I'm not planning on dumping a ton of money into this car. I really like the idea of a Tanabe Medallion catback, but I'm not sure where I'm going to go with this right now. I might put some money to the side every week and see what I come up with at the end of the year.

Anywhoo...

I put the carpet back in

Del Slo seats are back in

And an engine bay pic with the all powerful d15b7. Its in great shape for a 20 year old car.

Wheels/tires should be in this evening. I'll be reinstalling the rear seats tonight. The rear carpet is moldy, so I'm going to be redoing the rear in the next few weeks making it look more presentable.

Things are slowly coming along.. I got the interior all back together tonight in the cold rainy PA weather..

My ghetto fix to pass inspection. Temp fix until I weld in panels in the fall.

Had a few goodies come in today:

Who the **** puts slips on a Honda? haha.. seriously though... I've always liked the looks of slipstreams and decided to go with it

Ugh.. only this could happen to me after cleaning up all of this ****

Right on the ebay fart can axle back portion. I threw some JB weld on it until I decide what exhaust system I want to run.

She's starting to take shape. This will probably be my last update for a few weeks. I'm not going to dump money left and right into this thing (ya.. that's what I say now...)

Wheels mounted and balanced

Well.. I'm slowly getting some upgrades done to this thing. My muffler fell off one the way home from work, so that sped up my plans for an exhaust. I ended up going with a Yonaka catback. The reviews I read on here said it was decent.. so why not? Anyways, I decided to do a little project over the weekend:

Got me some boxes... 10" Sundown Audio e10d2 with a Sundown Audio SAX-100.4 Nothing fancy, just a little SQ in the civic..

Here's my install thus far; I won't have time to finish it for a few weeks:

I plan on finishing it up with a sheet of 1/4 plywood to clean it up, and also carpet the back of the seats from the moldy *** carpet that I pulled out of it.

Hopefully there's more to come this year...

I'm still waiting on another package to arrive. UPS didn't deliver today since our town was declared a state of emergency from all of the flooding everywhere thanks to a storm. Hopefully I'll get some pictures up this weekend of some work that's going to get done.

the box is around .7 cubes after displacement. I think I'm going to add another layer or two of fiberglass inside of it before I finish off the "trunk" area. I have to remember to order some carpet soon.

I'm running the e10 in my truck also off of an elemental designs nine.4 that amp was hard as hell to find last year!

I have a few updates to post in here. I'll probably get to them tomorrow. I'm beat from laying on my back under the car. I have a feeling that I'm going to be busy over the next 2 weekends.

yep, I'm going to try and do something similar to what I had in my FG2 a few years ago:

Spent about an hour today measuring and cutting that piece of cardboard. Then I saw my carpet that I ripped out of the back. I kept it for when I go to carpet the back of my seats. Turns out its the exact shape that I needed. I traced it on another sheet of cardboard, cut it out... and what do you know? it fit perfectly. Now I have to cut the sheet of 4x8 1/4" birchwood that I have in the garage, trace it, then get it to fit. from there I'll cut out the areas for the amp and sub, carpet, install, enjoy.

I've been slacking on updates. There really isn't much to update right now... haha...

Got some new toys in:

New rear quarters (I bet you can guess what's coming....)

Picked these up off a fellow H-T member over the weekend.

And this is how she sits at the body shop getting ready to go in.

I won't have any updates for at least 2 weeks then its being parked for the winter. I have new mirrors to go on as soon as it comes back. I'll spend my winter cleaning up the rear disc swap with new rotors, pads, paint, and SS lines.

Edit... WTF photobucket? my pics are sooo tiny...

I started tearing down my rear disc's to get them ready to throw on. Should be interesting........

I also swung by the bodyshop to check out the progress of the car. I thought I'd throw up some teaser pics of what was going on. They were nice enough to take pics for me through the whole process, so they'll be posted when the car is completed and I get my SD card back.

I was told 1.5-2 weeks tops for it to be completed. The wheel wells in the rear quarters were all rusted. they're fabbing up new ones. I'm excited to see what the finished product will be.

I'm going with Burning Red Pearl. I originally wanted maroon, then I was thinking of Captiva Blue, but the BRP just hit me when I was looking at pics online. To completly paint the car outside and in the jams of everything, fix the rear quarter rust, rebuild the wheel wells, and patch up the rust in the rockers, its running around $XXXX for everything. (sorry for the edit.. he didn't want the price public)

I swung by the bodyshop on Monday since I was off, not much has been done. The passenger side is ready for primer, the driver's side still has to have the panel welded on and finished. He's been pretty busy with insurance claims this year. I was told I would have the car back by April so I can get it ready to go to Carlisle in May. I haven't been there since I won "2000 and up Honda Civic All - Mild" class in 2010.

I haven't updated this for awhile, I just thought I'd let everyone know what I've been up to:

Picked up a hatch cover:

I was planning on refinishing the stock calipers, but I went with newly rebuilt ones instead. I was tempted to repaint them gold; but I'll keep the silver for now:

The RTA's were stripped, sand blasted, and powdercoated to a nice glossy black. The pics don't do them justice

TYC mirrors

Picked up new OEM 92-95 Si Hatch e-brake cables for my swap

Brembo Blanks for all 4 corners

40/40 Prop valve

I have a rear camber kit, Axxis pads, and some screws coming in later this week.

I still have to order Function7 LCA's, Goodridge SS brake lines, new front calipers (mine are UGLY), OEM RTA bushings, and a front camber kit. Yes, I know I don't *need* a camber kit, but I'd rather spend the money on one than replace tires every year. Hopefully I can show more progress on these in the next few days.
