Default The Great White North: A Honda Beat story

So I figured I would throw up a build thread on honda-tech for my 1991 Honda Beat as I would assume that I will likely sell it somewhere down into the states one day as it is a fully registerable car for you guys.

Car itself is a silver 1991 Honda Beat with approximately 40,000 km on the odometer when I type this. Mods When it was aquired by me last year were cheap no name lowering springs. Razo shift ****, cheap ebay steering wheel, and newest model Miata Mags with huge spacers in the front to keep from rubbing.

Here are some pics from its maden journey home

When I went to pick up the car a ton had to be reinstalled. The soft top, a number of interior panels, the spare tire etc... Got her all thrown together, attached the 13 inch front tires to the luggage rack, and 14's in the passenger seat, and off I went on the 12 hour journey home.

Heres a pic from stopping for lunch. Will help for size reference.

Driving the car itself is great. It is a go cart. Managed to discover a few quirks along the way home. Top speed is a whopping 139. At 140 you are then governed back to 135.

Car ran great all the way home. I bought this car right at the end of summer, and only took it out a few times last year. Over the cold Canadian winter months I ordered parts, and ordered parts, and just when you think I couldnt order anymore, I ordered more parts.

Full lip kit and muffler

Came in fedex looking like they had been hit by a truck. No damage inside

Baby axleback

Uber aggressive ssr rim set (that never makes it on the beat)

CF48

ARP extended studs

KBEE full adjustable coils

Ton of lugs

Tonneau cover, clear sidemarker project, and seatbelt clips (oem)

Just as spring peaks its head around the corner we get more snow and im at a standstill in the garage. Work truck on the right and beat on the left. Usually my wifes Sienna SE is in there, but I really wanted to see how big I could make the garage look.

Fitment of the staggered SSR's was too much for the beat to handle so Plan B was put into effect. Normally the subaru sambar is rocking bored out 13 inch vx Honda wheels with 175/70/13 blizzaks on it, which in even just RWD it is a beast through the snow. Figured it was time to mount the SSR's up.

Sambar wheels

Fronts: No name mesh 13x5.5 +20 offset 175/70/13
Rears: 14x7.5 -9 offset I think right now there is baldish 170/65/14 on it I have 60 series tires to put on it but I've been too lazy. That would put tire size within 1% again and I'd get 4wd again.

Anyways, back to the beat.

So a buddy and myself consume a few beers and throw the front and rear lips on.

Not much at all to attach the front so we had to fab up some custom L brackets that are kinda twisted. Worked better than expected. and here is the end result.

Muffler is also on in this shot. I should really have taken a pic of the oem muffler that was taken off. Huge and heavy. Probably a factor in the crash testing as it was pretty much the main rear bumper support. jk

You'll have to accept my apologies for both the cruddy pictures and lack of pictures during this next little bit. It was a busy time for me, and we made progress really fast. During this jump, which should take us to present.

Cf48's finished and installed
sideskirts
Spoiler
Carbon vent cover and fuel door
Kbee coils

Currently working on seats.

I'll skip to pics.

Just picked up a very nice set of JDM red recaros from a place here in town called JDM source. (very good source for engines/seats/ or anything JDM really)

As you can see they are going to be tight. In this pic the seat is sitting really high with the type r rails on it. They wont even fall down into the seat well. Should look really good when the go in in a few weeks.

I'll probably keep this for most the summer then move onto another project so if anyone is remotely interested feel free to shoot me a pm

Struggled a bit to find someone to fab me some brackets so currently in the middle of ordering some PP1 low ride recaro brackets from Japan.

Subbed!!

Loving the build!! Been hunting the auctions in Japan myself, been pondering over some nice kei cars the beat and the daihatsu mira tr-xx avanzato are at the top of my list. Do you mind me asking whta height you are and do you find it comfortable?

I've been searching for about 5 years for one lol.
My best bet is buying from canada and driving to the states with it, if possible.
An owner was even interested in meeting in Seattle Washington. Either way great car, I love the kit, what style? And where did you purchase?

Thanks for the kind words gentleman.

My dreams came true I made the monthly newsletter. "Beat" out for top story by a guy dangling his steering wheel out the window. LOL

In all honesty I am glad you guys enjoy the build. Just had another kid this week so time for pics and the beat are gonna be lacking. I did however just about finish up my clear sidemarkers I am making. As well as order some rails for the recaros and some fender overlays for it. Oem seats are going to be refinished zebra once I find some good skins in Japan.

As for the few questions.

I am 6 foot 180-185 lbs. I fit fine in the beat. Once you get in you are really reclined and tonnes of leg room. getting in and out really assists me in seeing how old I am Its low, tiny and awkward, and you usually have at least a few watching you as its not very common of a car.

As for looking for them in the states. The plan is to probably sell this car at the end of summer likely into the states (as I have managed to make it registerable) to fund my next project. If interested, shoot me a pm if you'd like.

I'll see if I can bust out the good camera this week and get some pics whilst the kids are napping.
