Help me please.
Ok tomorrow night a friend of mine is going to teach me how to ride a bike. Hes been riding for 9 years so he knows his ****. My question is when you own a bike what are the risk factors you take in owning one? My real close friend says i'd be stupid to buy one next year. Cause of all the idiot drivers that might hit me and what not. But talkin to my other friend it seems to be the route i want to take. Get a 95 bmw 330 or m3 for a daily and then get like a 00-01 750 (either a suzuki or a cbr) for a weekend toy to take on the back roads. Also how long will it last me like time wise? I've heard 10k miles does that sound accurate? Thanks for the help.

possible risks:
lent it to a friend (or your brother
), find it got wrecked.
get hooked on track riding and twisties and spend lotsa money on tires
a perosn without experience riding a gsx-r or something in that range and dropping it in no time
end up thinking of what you can do to maximize the performance on your motorcycle and feel an urge to ride faster in track, and end up going to school to become a mechanic (thats me).
and the list goes on.

Definately buy used for your first bike imho. Something used and cheap because most likely you are going to lay it down in no time. After a year you can start looking at a new bike. Thats just my opinion.

With the issue of whether or not a bike is good for you, just search thru this forum and you'll see lots of opinions.
As for how long the bike will last you? 10K? Are you serious? Bikes will last just as long as cars if they are taken care of. Regular maintenance, oil changes, etc....you can see over 100K miles.
