Default what could this be?

Hey guys, I have a 96 lx f22b2 with manual transmission. The problem I'm having is when shifting from say 1st, 2nd, or 3rd and going straight to 5th, there is a grind until the rpms come down, it will go into 5th from 1st, 2nd, or 3rd if the rpms come down below 3000. From 4th to 5th is no problem, so I haven't noticed it because i usually do run through all the gears.

I have read up about it and 5th grinding seems to be a real issue with the f22. It does not ever pop out of 5th and like I said, 4th to 5th has no issues. I have read that changing the MTF with oem Honda fluid works wonders, so i did that today. It really smoothed it out but still has issues coming into 5th from a low gear at high rpms, except from 4th.

any info on what it could be would be appreciated, thanks.

If it did it in every gear you could say maybe pressure plate. Since it varies it's tranny related. It could be about three different things but it doesnt' really matter. The tranny will need to be taken apart and inspected and rebuilt.

thanks guys, I plan on either rebuilding, replacing, or, I may end up saving for the full h22 swap..I have also looked into k series and at hmotorsonline, the k24 and h22 seem to be about the same price for motor and tranny, expensive..I feel comfortable with the h22 swap, but I will have to research much more on the k series..i do know this, if I have to dump 1000+ into the f22 tranny, I will just spend the extra, swap, and have something I really want.
