EM1 Civic Exhaust question!!
Hey guys,
I have an EM1 Civic, with a high compression B20, which will (hopefully) soon be converted to B20 VTEC. Right now, I have a DC header on it, with the stock cat and midpipe, and ending with a flowmaster muffler. When I go VTEC, I want something on it that is a little less restrictive, sounds good and NOT like a folgers can filled with hornets, that isn't loud while cruising but still is effective for getting the most out of my motor.
Any suggestions?

Go to local muffler shop, have a custom pipe made od about 2.5-3 inch In diameter and then shop ebay for a muffle that has a sound you like. Best option unless you feel like dropping close to a grand on some new name brand exhaust.
We only cover this twice a week, but basically this. Assuming you mean factory high compression B20, 2.5" piping. If you've actually modified it to increase the compression further, 3" wouldn't hurt, but isn't necessary. I always recommend the Thrush Turbo muffler. Cheap, available at your local parts store, sounds good without being stupidly loud, and is within the most restrictive laws.

Why not buy a eBay 2.5-3" exhaust? They have stainless exhausts from the cat back for $150...can't beat that at any muffler shop. Then choose a muffler/resonator(s) of your own and have them welded on.
I recently bought a megan racing d-spec.. it has a nice, deep tone. Unlike many high pitched exhaust tones, this one is very quiet. If you open the throttle, it will get loud, of course, but for the most part, it's got a nice, low pitched and deep tone. Sort of like Magnaflows and such, but cheaper.

How much do you want to spend? I'd go 2.5". 3" is more for boost. I have a full Thermal R&D on my EM1 with a B16B and it sounds great. I definitely wouldn't go eBay unless you're just going to use it for the mid pipe. You could get a Mugen twin loop axle back or go with the spoon axle back.
I am pretty content with my muffler, it looks good and sounds good. At the very least I really just want an aftermarket midpipe that is a little bigger than stock. However, I was just trying to get an idea of what others have gone with in the event that I decide to buy a catback exhaust

Are/were you just looking for an aftermarket B-pipe ? only brand I know/can think of that "might" sell you JUST the b-pipe is K-Teller AFAIK they just do 3'' systems.

3" exhausts are not only for boost. They work really well on a lot of NA stuff. K20s and F20Cs do well with 2.75-3" pipe. The problem on older civics is noise and fitment. It's hard to squeeze 3" pipe past the LCA unless you're at stock or close to stock height...or you go under the LCA. If you go under the LCA, clearance is an issue...so again, the ride height needs to be so that everything will clear.
3" is a waste of time...
Unless you have a 4L+ V8 in your Civic...
2-1/4" is all you'll ever need to go....

Now now ladies, you're both pretty. Also, you're both using the right word. Two different words for the same thing - it's called a synonym. Generally speaking though, the term "mid pipe" is used when a turbo is involved, whereas "B pipe" is generally used when there is none.
You should make better use of this; Advanced Search and Google.
You should also adopt the philosophy that in all the years that these cars have been around and with how long this forum has been around SOMEbody has already asked the same questions you are right now.

Watch the attitude. I may not be necessary but it's warranted. This "I know I should search but I'm too lazy to search and I'd rather people bring the information to me instead of me going to it" nonsense is what causes there to be a ba-zillion of these threads ALL SAYING THE EXACT SAME THING!!! Good way to get your thread locked; Name calling. Nothing anyone said here warranted your response. Refusing to search for tired topics makes no sense. No new ground being broken here. Nothing in your engine bay necessitates the need for anything other than a stock exhaust or an off the shelf one. Sound was one of your criteria. How are WE supposed to tell YOU what something sounds like by typing words in a thread? We can't. So as has always been suggested by everyone else that asks this same question; Go to Youtube and listen to sound clips.

Everything everyone else has already said, is the ONLY advice. Go to Youtube, listen to sound clips of different exhausts. If you had only gone past page 1 of this section you would have found 2 different posts asking the exact same question.
nobody here is trolling and flaming your post. we are all just tired of answering the same question every 3 days. a simple search on Google would have given enough companies to look at for exhaust, and that takes 10 seconds.

HAHAHA, wow. another em1 with HIGH compression b20b. Brings back memories. Anyways to get the most out of it you can reuse the headers but I would get a 2.5 inch exhaust system. I had an rs-r exmag, yes the original, and it sounded nice. power wise i don't know but that em1 moved.
