Optima Yellow Top thoughts!!??
Nothing wrong with Optima. I prefer the Redtop over the Yellowtop though. Red has more cc amps while the yellow is more of a deep cycle. I paid $159CAD for my redtop.
i had a problem with my Yellow Top before.
dead cell just over a year.
it was odd because battery showed as fully charged but when i tried to start the car, my voltmeter values dropped.
luckily for me, Optima/Interstate was nice enough to refund me the full price of the battery.
my local shop was thinking there was a problem with the Optima Yellow Top application for the Integra/Civics (51R battery style) as they received a few dead ones as well that came back.

i have a yellow top on my jeep. The yellow top is the deep cycle one vs the regular one for the red. what I don't like about the yellow is how the warranty period is only 2 years. I personally wouldn't get it unless you needed it b/c of a high draw stereo or the like. I have it on my jeep mainly for the winch.
I have a red top in my hatch. I preferred it to a regular battery since its in the trunk. If you have it under the hood I do not really see the need unless like R6Elmo said you have a big stereo.

do not use yellow tops in street cars. deep cycles are made to be charged, then drained. perfect for marine or high wattage stereo use.
they die MUCH earlier than red tops in a street car
a red top can for 5-8 years with no trouble
a yellow, maybe 2

defenitly do not use a yellow top for street duty. it wont last long at all the red top will work buy IMHO I think they all are a waste of money I ran a red top and a freakin walmart battery with no problems
died sudden death in 2 years. never to be recharged again.
lucky i got stuck at the mall 5 minutes frm my house and not in some village in the mountains.
would never have a yellow top
with regular battery at least it can be charged while driving.
once yellow top is dead its dead.

I have dual Yellow Tops in my 07 Tahoe, and luckily have not had a problem, its been about 2 years since I've installed them. My Tahoe is stock everything, no major stereo equipment and such. I just have a Sears die hard in my Type R never had an optima in that. But I may get a red top if they have one that fits.
What's wrong with an OEM battery or equivalent? As long as you drive the car or keep it tendered while you don't, it'll last several years and be a cheaper initial investment.
If you're not running a competition audio system, a lot of accessories, etc...is there any need for something that expensive (and heavy)?

each has its own application you should research about different battery types and see what they are suited for best. then make your choice.
i know alot of local shops dropped optimas for that reason of them dying suddenly.
and im not just bsing i talk to alot of shops.

Would not get a yellow top for regular street usage.
i wouldn't recommend it. i had a yellow top in my car (bought my car a year and a half ago, not sure how long the battery was in before i bought the car) and it just died suddenly just 2 weeks ago. i asked the guy at the battery shop if a yellow top is really necessary for my car ( i have a 10" sub, amp and a defi HUD) and he said its not needed at all. if your just driving around normally that i would just go with a regular battery, save yourself some money.
I think most people run them (me included) when the battery is relocated to the cabin. I have mine in trunk and didn't want acid leaking all over the place.

I have put a yellow tops in all of my cars since 1997 so about a dozen . I love them!!! Only time I have ever had a problem is if the car was not used for more than a week but that is easily solve with a battery tender. I have a red top in my wife's truck and it has worked flawlessly.
A battery tender is crucial if the vehicle is not used everyday!!!

Ptoblem is not when they work but when they stop working they die sudden death. Tender or no tender. Mine died suddenly at the mall. Its my daily driver never been discharged or left for more than 2 days sitting.
If you travel to less populated areas i suggest getting a red top or interstate battery.

had each of the yellow on both my integra.....the car that i didn't drive much lasted 1 year and the one i drove more, lasted 2 years.....these thing $uck! now running a cheapo battery from autozone and it's been going for almost 4 years and still going for under half the price. if anything, give red a try but imho, stay away from yellow.
