Default 1990 Honda Accord AC bypass

Hi there, I've got a quick question. I've got a 1990 honda accord and the compressor is shot, the pulley is wobbling and you can hear a rubbing noise. I've heard that you can bypass the compressor just by getting the belt for the model that doesn't have AC, but I took it to my mechanic and he says that he needs to buy a bypass pulley for it. I'm kinda strapped for cash at the moment, so I'm just wondering if what he said was true, considering that every auto parts store I've looked at doesn't have a bypass pulley for a 1990 honda accord, and most bypass pulley's cost the same as a compressor that I can just pull from a local junkyard. I just can't find information on if I can just get a belt and take the compressor out of the loop, since I don't have the cash for the pulley or a compressor...thanks.

More to the point, can I just take a belt from a model that doesn't have a compressor and slap it on? I know you can on later models, since there's some posts here about like 95 accords, but I don't see anything about the 90 accords.

90 accord motors are identical to all 90-2002 motors.

thanks, I'm still learning the 'do it yourself" stuff, I knew 90-94's were identical, just didn't know they were identical to that extent. Gonna take it to another mechanic to have it looked at too, i'm starting to think that this guy has no idea what he's talking about....I've looked through all the auto part's stores I can find, and still have come up with nothing for a bypass pully on a 90 or later model, yet this guy quoted me at 100 dollars just for the part and said it was required to bypass it. Not to mention labor and a new belt.

You shouldn't need to change your pulley at all, just need a smaller belt.

will I need to completely remove the compressor? Looks like it might be in the way of the belt, not 100% sure yet

nope. no need to remove it. it JUST BARELY clears. never had issues on mine. you wasted $30 on a "bypass" pulley when a belt cost way less then that. they fooled you into thinking you need a "bypass" pully
