Painted Wheels...
I just recently got my hatch and the dude who owned her painted the rota slips a ruby red, then had the valve cover painted to match. When I first went to get the car I kept thinking I was going to change the color of everything and buy new wheels. However, the color scheme is growing on me quickly and I'm thinking about sticking with it, just getting it all re-painted properly since there are some serious paint flaws on this car and the red on the slips is starting to fade and they've only been painted about a year. So now for the questions...
Was it a horrible idea for him to paint them? If I get them re-painted, what can I do to make the color last longer? Is it fading this bad because he didn't do something properly? I would be taking the car in to professionals to get it painted, so just curious on what to expect or if it's even a good idea to paint them again.

powdercoating would probably be your best bet, quality-wise. second would be taking them to a body shop to be painted properly, and the worst idea would be to rattle can (assuming the guy did little to no prep work) them.
to be honest, I would just get them repainted (either via powdercoating or professionally painted) the same shade if you like it. it will last a lot longer, and won't fade nearly as soon.

Thanks! I was thinking powdercoating, too. I've really fallen in love with the color, so it hurts to see it all faded and chipped in a couple spots.
DO NOT PLASTI DIP THEM! i currently have spent 100 dollars on paint stripper and supplies and 10 hours labor stripping plasti dip off a set of rota hm3's...
best is powdercoating!!!
best is powdercoating!!!
Oh wow! Good luck with all that! Sounds like a ton of work.
This is why I'm researching before I do anything with paint/bodywork. I know I don't know what I'm doing, so I'm going to figure it out first. lol
