Bought a new 2013 Civic - Rust already?
Hi all,
Posting from Ontario, Canada here.
I purchased a new 2013 Civic EX in February of this year. I was detailing it today & notice what looks like rust inside my driver's door. I've attached a couple of pictures below.

Is this rust? or some type of glue/adhesive they are using when assembling the car? The car is brand new so I'm quite concerned about rust being a factor already, especially inside the doors.
Thanks!

im thinking thats rust....which would totally suck.
I always recommend oil type undercoating/doors etc even on a brand new car, glad to see Honda still doesn't epoxy dip prime their parts/chassis.
I'd be all over Honda Canada like a fat kid on a smarty if I was you.
I lived in Ontario for almost 2 decades and understand the salt issues.. which is why I always recommended it. Being a professional mechanic, I can tell you it would save you a bundle over time as long as you pressure wash it off every couple years to remove the dirt that sticks to the oil to allow for better coverage in future applications.
Best of luck, keep me posted. This SH*t always gets me going. That much cash for a rot pot...**** me off.

I loved honda since i got my first crx vtec. Ive had civics, accords, crx, del sol's, prelude's and have a 2010 crv and a 2008 civic lx right now and I cant stop thinking about how im going off this make big time.
Honda's were famous for being bullet proof cars that would go and go and go and last forever! Now... not so much. There cars are no different now than saturn/kia or hyundai. 2013 thats showing rust is a absolute joke! I had a 16 year old crx that i used as a dd that was in snow with salt everywhere and had only a little patch of rust, the way yours is going your car wont see 16 years.
For anyone looking for a honda because there reliable and bulletproof look around. Kia's will overtake them in reliability ratings soon enough!

OP you just got some bad luck that is all. Call up Honda Canada or even go to your dealer they will gladly take care of it I'm pretty sure. It's just merely surface rust which can be cleaned off with a grinder and touched up.
Take it to your dealer for an inspection. There is no way that should NOT be covered under your 3 year corrosion warranty.
If the dealer makes a fuss about it, call up Honda Canada directly, or try visiting another dealer first.
Good luck. Let us know what happens.

across the board, at least from '06-'10, the paint has been terribly soft and thin, but more concerning has been the admitted issues with dark colors going back a decade. for Honda to send out letters to owners years after their cars were purchased is proof that Honda is well aware of the problems they've caused us.
i haven't dealt with Honda paint after 2010, but no matter what i'm sure it's extremely thin as all of the econobox makers have dialed in their paint application down to the last drop. just enough to get the job done and keep the car ok through the warranty period

OP, i'm curious what that is. hard to tell from the pics but it looks as if it might be some steel sandwiched and there is moisture in there with no protection. if it were me, i'd probably get it checked out by a reputable body shop BEFORE you take it to you local Honda dealer's body shop. ****, maybe get two opinions prior. this way you have something to use against them if they blow you off.
also, after that is done, depeding on what they say, i'd likely take some rust remedy or rust converter and use a pipette to get it in there, let it do its thing and then clean, mask and let some matched base soak in that sandwiched area or regular touch up paint, though that is usually pretty thick and you might have a hard time getting it there though as long as the converter is in there it should keep it from getting worse.

Don't know if this is still an issue, but I really don't think this is rust. Honda and many other makers put a lubricant / sealant in many places as a rust-proofing. It frequently can leak a bit and look like this. Seen it many times on multiple cars.
