Default Help.. burned switch?

I have a 96 civic ex with power windows. MY passenger was not working with both switches ( driver side, and passenger side) so i thought it was the motor. My new regulator and motor came today so i went straight to installing it. But then i ran in this.

i plugged in my motor to the connector, turned on car, pressed both window buttons and nothing. so im guessing this is my problem. My question is has anyone else ran into this problem? how do i fix it.

Looks like rust, not scorch marks.

Did you actually test it with a multimeter?

ok so i went over to radioshack and bought a multimeter. im going to be checking the connector & fuse 10( the passenger window) anything else i should check?
this is my first time working wth a multimeter so bear with me. i will post back the results incase anyone else has this problem.
question: it might be dumb but just to be safe. does the battery have to be disconected? or is it safe.

The only problem i dont know how to test the connector(the picture). can someone help me out? do i change my setting to volts and just plug them into any of the holes with the probes? i dont want to damage anything or my multimeter.
