H22a4 5 speed swap into 4th gen
I currently own a 94 prelude with the f22 and an auto transmission. I've been looking around for quite a while looking for the h22 5 speed swap until now an opportunity has presented itself. A friend of mine recently totaled his 5th gen prelude base. I would have liked to have gone with the h22a1 because the swap sounds easier but im okay with the extra work and the price is worth it. The ecu trans motor harness everything is present, my question is will the m2y4 trans and the h22a4 fit into my 4th gen? If so what modifications am I going to have to make in order for it to work?
Yes it will work, I just pulled a H22a4 out of my 4th gen. Its not all that complicated really, Preludes were meant to have H's in them so its as easy of a swap as your going to get. Its the same amount of work as any H swap, only difference is your engine the "A4" is a open deck block instead of the "A1" is a closed deck block.
-Get you buddies H22a4, trans, shift linkage, and OBD2 wiring harness
-Find a Civic OBD1 ECU so it can be tuned-------------- If not building/built engine use 5th gen ECU
-Buy a OBD1-to-OBD2 jumper harness------------------
-Buy H series 92-96 prelude engine and trans mounts
-axles???
My prelude came with the h22a1, so I had H series axle shafts already... Not sure if your F series or the 5th gens would work... Maybe somone could shed some light on this?
But basically thats all you need, make sure the civic ECU gets chipped and tuned for the H22a4 before you install or you may ruin your engine! Prelude ECU's are garbage for tuning.
Anyhow hope this helps!

so if I stick with the prelude ecu for now I really only need the mounts? and if necessary ill buy the axles. its only going to cost me 600 for the whole car so I'm not exactly going broke on buying it. and the base trans will fit correct? its the type-sh that will not
If you have his whole car then yes all you really need are mounts and axles. Yes the trans will fit, so would type-SH in the car. The mounts are the same, its the matting surface and bolt pattern on the block and tranny them selves is whats different. Type-SH trans needs Type-SH engine, Its because of the ATTS unit. Either will fit in any prelude or accord.
