Im going to Japan in Jan fro the 2003 TAS and i was thinking bout getting a Spoon T/B. Its only US 173.00 so im gonna buy it either way...but my question for those who r running it, is it really a whole lot better...Like on Throttle response...and does the 70mm make that big of a differene?

It's just an OEM TB that has been taper bored to 70mm - the diameter of the plate at the butterfly is the same as OEM.

Is there another T/B that is better or is the oem the best one for the R?

It depends on the application.

For most - stock is fine.

Mugen/King Motorsports offers porting your OEM TB 4mm over all the way through with a new throttle plate and reset the TPS for 150.00! This is what i am thinking about doing.

Taper bore the exisiting TB you have. You will notice more mid-range gains.

What i meant by reseting the TPS is they have to take it off in order to clean it and do what they have to do, and they just put it back on and "recalibrate" it to factory specs.

Are any of the "not worth it" responses from people who have actually tried the Spoon throttle body?
dyno proven to make no extra power on a modified B18C5.

not worth it. My buddy with a 98 Type-R put it on and ran slower. Trap speed stayed the same. It was identical 60 fts. and identical temp, humidity. That sealed the deal for me.

I have a Spoon TB
After my first tuning, I was rated at 175.4 at the wheels

Then I added a Spoon TB, I was rated at 175.7 baseline.
All I gain was 3 tenths of increase.

Keep in mind Their One year apart Exactly.

The point of the Spoon throttlebody is to gain better throttle response.

No one ever claimed it would give you more power or decrease your ET's.

Does it increase throttle response?

If that's the case, then it does its job effectively.

If you cannot afford the downtime it would take to send your stock T/B away or you like to keep all of your parts stock in the event you ever sell the car, the Spoon throttle body is a worthy upgrade IMHO.

I think it's a good upgrade for NON-ITR owners. Not exactly the most cost effective mod for the ITR.

I have it, noticed better throttle response, but on the dyno it netted miniscule gains (<1whp and <2lbs-ft of torque).
