Default just broke my B20VTEC...

damn! installing cam gears on the weekend, my mates were around, making me rush, not concentrating enuf...

didn't set the crank to perfect TDC and put the t.belt on and started her.

you know the rest, bent a few intake valves - pretty sure they crunched the pistons (took a few cranks to realise problem!)

so im pulling the whole block and putting the B16 back in...

now, my options are:

1. repair/replace any damaged B20 pistons, repair head and reinstall...
or
2. get forged pistons/rods, get new (unmilled) head and reinstall...

what do you guys think?

yeah, a ton - like 90 degrees on the crank!

REALLY stupid! not concentrating - i am normally so careful!

i just assumed i had left the crank at TDC but i had rotated it a few times to check that there was no binding with the VTEC engaged

what forgies do youreckon? JE 12.5:1?

and Probe u/light rods?

Damn, I am glad to see that you are not giving up.
Build it back w/ forged components.

BTW, only keep the buddies around during an install that actually help you.

Crikeys tinker

Next time don't forget to crank it around by hand first to check for binding

You waited a long time to get that thing together

Dang that is some bad luck I wish you better luck next time.

Now I don't feel so bad about quadruple checking everything.

Sorry to hear of your problem, I just read about you installing the motor a few weeks back. I got Probe rods and Arias 11.5:1 compression in my motor. The motor still isn't installed but I will tell you guys how everything is once the motor is installed and tuned.

Good luck on your build up

I've got JE 10.5's on Eagle rods...ok for me, no probs yet.
I would say that they are all pretty close in quality, 6 one way and half dozen the other.
All though, a local guy hit 900.4 rwhp recently in his Supra with Arias pistons.
I would probably do Arias because I believe they are cheaper than JE's yet comparable quality.

I would say to go with Eagle rods, and the Import Builders Wiseco pistons. I have the Endyne Wiseco pistons in my B20VTEC, but supposedly the IB ones have deeper valve relief cuts for larger cam lobes.
