Icon2 1st Gear...

I did a search, multiple times, & didn't get anything unless I'm wording it wrong.

1st gear grinds when I try to throw it back in there, mainly when the vehicle is moving. If at a dead stop, it goes in with pretty much no issues.

I've already changed the fluid with Honda MTF, tried bleeding the clutch but I'm going to do it again when either I get a pump or help with someone pumping while I open the bleeder valve.

No other gear grinds, CR-V has 106k miles...thoughts? I jumped on crv owners club . com & I got multiple suggestions but no one was really clear.

there is no need to go into first gear while you are moving in the first place, first gear is not a driving gear its a start off gear ...but yeah it shouldn't grind i guess...but i do not have an answer for that

Yeah, 1st gear in a honda is strictly a get going gear. It's hard to get back in there in any honda. you shouldn't ever have the need to go back to 1st from 2nd. if you're moving even as slow as 1-2mph and are in 2nd gear the honda is better off just pulling from there. I would assume this goes for basically any manual transmission but I don't have experience in much others.

Unless you're on a incline you can typically pull out in 2nd from a dead stop. Do yourself and more importantly your car a favor and stay out of 1st gear when you're driving unless you're at a dead stop then this problem will no longer be a problem as you aren't going into 1st from 2nd anymore and more importantly those synchros will thank you in the long run and so will your wallet.

think of this every time you wanna go into 1st gear. "am I at a dead stop?" if yes then "Yes" if no "No"

Alright...thanks.

Last honda I had didn't do this, but it was years ago, & it wasn't stock. & my srt I can downshift into first if I really need but barely have to.

I'll take your advice & see how it goes.
