Default eg civic cluster short?

Having some trouble with my cluster. The gas and temp needle rises slowly when the key is in the "on" position and for some reason both turn signals on the cluster light up on their own and are slightly lit as well as the highbeams warn light. When I push the hazard lights it speeds up the temp needle and rises faster. Anyone have any suggestion to where to look or any other ideas besides pulling out the harness?

Cluster is easy to take out. I would take it out and look at the back of the cluster and at the wiring harness and see what you can find as far as open wires.

Yeah I was thinking there might be an exposed wire somewhere along the harness but why would it cause the cluster to malfunction? It happened after I retaped up the dash harness to prevent wires from getting cut around the metal and sharp edges. I doubt it's rubbing up against some piece of metal while it's taped up. I checked the cluster wires and everything seems fine.

Would you be able to try a buddys cluster? Maybe a junk yard cluster?

So you're saying you were taking some things apart and taping up the harness and then later it happened? Well it sounds like you messed something up while you were down there. I'd say it's probably time to grab your multimeter, a wiring diagram and find your short.

I would try another cluster if you would be able to somehow. Easy thing to do before you start testing wires.

I'm actually suspecting a bad ground - but not necessarily behind the cluster. Unfortunately a real pain to track down. Ron@HT is the best at figuring this stuff out.

Thanks for all the advice , I tried tracking it down and turns out it was the yellow/black wire, on the green plug that hooks to the fuse box, that caused all that mess.
