+1 use the off the shelf rates if you're only concerned about a good riding car, I just bought some off a member on here and will be upping the rear rate for autoX duties.

I don't see where anyone said that. Ground Controls are height adjustable via a threaded collar style sleeve. By 'upping the rear rate' I mean going with a spring that has a higher spring rate than what it comes with, height would be unchanged. The spring would be the same size, just with a higher spring rate.

Sounds like you should just buy some lowering springs and shocks. For a couple hundred more(depending on your budget), you can get a much better performing/riding setup by going the Koni Yellow and Ground Control route, and you'd have the ability to adjust ride height. Koni STR-T shocks are fairly inexpensive, and there's tons of springs out there for different ride heights. Check out www.tirerack.com for a ballpark figure on prices. Used stuff can be found for fairly cheap, as well, but you'll have to do some forum scouring to find the deals.

Also, when lowered, a camber kit is NOT necessary, but an alignment is highly recommended to keep toe in check, which will wear tires prematurely, not camber.
