Default FA5 Brake Suggestions

Hey all,

So i need to replace my brakes on all 4 corners. I plan on changing the discs and the pads. I need a pad that is going to have a lot of bite on the street and on the track as I do some track during the summer.

I usually go with the try and true Brembo blank/Hawk HPS pads but I'm thinking of getting the HP+ for the front and HPS for the rear.

Also any other suggestions? I see a lot of people talking about Stop Tech! Thoughts?

Are you just replacing pads and rotors, or are you interested in swapping calipers as well?

i'm on centric blank rotors, hawk hps pads f/r, stoptech stainless lines, and ate super blue fluid in my rsx. very, very good street setup. only tracking i do is the drag strip so i wont comment on that.

my only complaint is they dust up like crazy with heavy use. the front wheels were caked with dust after 4-5 hard uses slowing down at the end of the track. just regular daily driving they're not bad.

i want to try the hawk hp+ front/hps rears or the stoptechs on my next brake job. i hear very good things on the stoptechs.

Have you contemplated going with the TSX brake upgrade?

if you track the car, you will need pads and fluid that can handle the abuse/heat

I'm actually in the exact same spot as you, and here is what I'm planning on doing.

I'm going to get track only rotors and pads which will be put on and taken off after every track weekend.
I only run every couple months or so, so this shouldnt be a big deal.

I am running carbotech xp10 pads and plain ole brembo oem style rotors.
I will be bleeding some ATE super blue fluid in, and will plan on bleeding in new fluid every year....unless I boil it at a track day...

For the street, I'm running brembo oem style rotors and then I just go buy pads from the honda dealership.
My original pads/rotor on the car lasted over 50K miles, with minimal wear on the rotor and little dust....so I have no problem spending the extra for Honda pads.

I have yet to upgrade the brakes on my FG2, but I've installed Powerslot front rotors/OE style rear rotors/Hawk HPS pads on my Dad's Subaru with very good street results. On my old Sentra SE-R I did the same rotor setup but with stock rear pads, and EBC Green on the front, also an Altima MC for a much firmer pedal, and it was a perfect street setup for that car, and I felt that the EBC pads, though on a very different car than the Subaru, were a better street pad than the Hawks. The Sentra didn't have good enough tires for any more brake bite anyhow. I went to one autocross event in the Sentra on a tight course and never had any brake fade issues at all. The only reason for using slotted front rotors on these vehicles is to avoid warping, they don't make a difference in stopping power, especially not on the street. If money were no issue I would do Powerslot front/OE rear rotors/EBC Green front and rear/steel braided hoses, but to save a little I'm planning on Stoptech front/OE rear rotors/Hawk HPS front and rear/steel braided hoses, and we'll see how she holds up at her first autocross event. I'll probably shake her down on a mountain road first and see where I stand.

I think that setup is going to be very rock solid from what I have read on 8thgencivic... a lot of those guys a raving and actually saying that they are better then brembo!

If you want to replace the brakes and pads so go to the Honda dealer ship and replace the Honda original parts because it is more reliable and good on street. you have more use so always replace with original it depends on your usage if low you can go any other brand.

OEM brakes arent anything to brag about it... they brake ok but I'm really not impressed to be honest. Most people upgrade to a better quality solution and notice better braking performance.

I personally would never do OEM brakes on any of my cars street or just sunday driving.

HP+ has pretty good bite for the street, but they dust way more than the HPS and can be noisy. I have them on my hatch.

I have the HPS front and rear pads on my FA5 and they are ok. They don't have very good initial bite but are fine for the street. Next time around I'll get the HP+ for the fronts since I don't care about the noise/dust that much. Also, I get squeaks in the back with the HPS - I never diagnosed what it could be from. My guess is it's from pad deposits left on the rotors when using the e-brake too soon after driving - so it might not be due to the pads.

What kind of fluid do you have? Has it been changed out recently? Switch to a good DOT4 fluid if you haven't already; even the cheap walmart Prestone DOT4 is better than what came in the car originally.

One more thing, do you really need new rotors? Reason I ask is because I'm still on my original rotors at 105K miles. Granted, I haven't actually measured their thickness yet; the next time I change the oil, I'll measure their thickness.
