Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone has used this paint and if you clear coated over it. I've been looking into clear coating it or not. I want the finish to last but I'm not even sure if the clear coat is needed.
Duplicolor color products are very low quality, get an SEM product. If you are talking about a black trim paint then you def want I use SEM trim black, and it doesn't need to be cleared just prep with a red scuff pad

Yeah...I wish I had read about SEM trim paint before. I had sprayed the lines of the bumper that match up with the molding with Dupli-color trim paint before this thread but wasn't sure if I was going to clear coat over it or not. Oh well, I guess I'll clear over it to try to keep it looking decent. It's by no means anything close to a show car so I'll just deal with it.
works good, not sure why you would want clear over it, why not just use gloss black then. The whole point of it is so it looks plasticy.

SEM and TRANSTAR are both excellent paint for trim and accesories. I personally use transtar but i have heard great things about sem. i work at a auto parts warehouse that has a in house paint shop and they sell both brands and both have great reviews.
As with all products which you spray out of a can, the application process is as important (probably more important) that the product you are using.
I have used the duplicolor stuff with great results. Some of my parts were painted about 4 years ago and the paint shows no signs of deterioration.
That being said SEM does get mostly great reviews across the board. A lot of people trash duplicolor but i have never had an isusue, its important to realize that spray paint is regular paint diluted with all kinds of **** like propellant etc. keep expectations realistic.

the SEM stuff is really good! used on my coupe and lasted 2 years, was still on there i just decided to replace the trim pieces.
My autox car had nasty window trim so i sprayed them with leftover 500 degree duplicolor gloss black engine enamel, cleared with cheapo krylon, and has lasted for 6ish months so far, still looks like the day i did it.
Its honestly more about application than product, but for a better long-lasting spray, just go with the SEM.
