Yes backfiring is bad. You run the possibility of blowing a hole in a piston by backfiring.
What i mean is have you don't anything to it recently (ex. Timing belt, water pump, spark plus, plug wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter) and if so did the backfiring problem occur after you did such maintenance or was it prior.
What i am asking for is when/why/how did this problem occur or become known?
Also.... Did this happen after the 120mph thing?

Do you know when the timing & balance shaft belts, water pump, and valves were last serviced?
Check the physical timing of the engine and the electrical components in the ignition system. Also have your timing belt and valve clearances inspected.

Like ghost accord said. Check your physical timing. When you change the timing belt, water pump and tensioner pulley, make sure you use gates or go to Honda and get a OEM belt.

You could also have a cracked/broken exhaust valve(s)
You could have a compression test and/or leak down test performed on the engine to see if that might be the case. Or if you know someone with one of those small engine inspection cameras. You could have them go in and take a look.
Those are some probable areas to search.

Check and see if the iacv and iat sensor connectors are swapped. Also check the map sensor and tps sensor connectors if perhaps they're swapped too.
Yes, it can be an exhaust leak too if the exhaust leak is before the oxygen sensor. You will need to fix the leak and replace the oxygen sensor with a Denso brand.

Mine did that after I redid my timing belt. It was couple tooth off, and every time I warm it up, it would lightly pop here and there. Re do my timing belt again, and no more popping sound.
Yes you can!
