Okay, I'll keep this very brief.
I've been the owner of a few RSXs for awhile, and I've used one as my DD while in Hawaii. I've had the other (a Type S), in storage for the last 3 years on the mainland. It had just ticked over 95,000 miles when I stored it. My question is quite simple... What kind of interest would I likely get on a trade for an 02 RSX Type S, no modifications at all, no issues, adult owned/driven, etc. for any year/condition of Type R? I'm not asking about this forum specifically, but in general. I know the Type S can go for around $8k+ in its current condition, etc., but I'm just curious.
I'm actually interested in just trading for someone's DD Type R, or nice condition model. Miles don't matter, cosmetics aren't a factor, as long as the value is similar, and it's mechanically VERY SOLID. I'd probably drive it for a pair of seasons, and then sell it before the end of 2013. Again, I'm not asking for offers at this time, I'm just interested in if it's a reasonable trade to think about?

IMO you're going to get kind of a beater ITR for the price of a very nice RSX-S of that vintage ($8k like you say). It's up to you but I don't think I'd look for a straight trade, unless you really don't care about the condition of the ITR.

That's a very good point. I'm actually not looking for originality, or condition in any way. I know it's an odd kind of thing to request, but perhaps I should state my reason for even asking about it...
I've been on this site for nearly a decade, and I've made some amazing friends over that time, and learned a great deal. I've bought, built, re-built, wrenched, and demolished cars thanks to this site. For all of that, I'm completely grateful.
With that said, I've been looking back on my years, and trying to realize some dreams I had in the past (no matter how childish)... I've had a tremendous amount of loss and struggle in my life over the last year, which has forced me to give up things that I've loved, and pursue things that I never had the courage to try. In short: I want to go on an adventure. Now, I'd like to find a "beater" R to drive across the country. It was a little goal of mine I had when I was much younger, but I never got the chance. Life, as they say, got in the way. I was planning to put just about 5,000 miles on the car, and then sell it at the end of my trip. You know, an honest, albeit temporary, "experience".
Why an R? Honestly, I've had about 10 cars that I would consider before an R, but I feel like it would be a fitting tribute to my younger self to go for one. Hell, who knows? Maybe I'll learn something about myself from it... My real motive though, is that I'd actually like to write a book on it. Truthfully, the book wouldn't even mention the R, or Honda, just the journey.
Anyway, thanks for humoring me folks!

why not just sell the rsx?
you're doing too much work for nothing.
i dont know why you would trade your car for a itr and than sell it..
just sell your rsx and skip all the work..
let the itr be with someone that actually want to keep them. not sell them
plus why would any one downgrade?

As for why I don't jus sell the RSX? Meh. I will. That's why I'm asking the question... As for only allowing the ITR to be owned by people who will keep it? It's a car dude. Plus, we all know a CRX is the only God's Chariot here. No need to get misty-eyed over a car.

I don't know that you'll find many ITR owner's who are interested in trading for an RSX. It seems like most of the folks with ITR's now (who sell them) are looking for a more "grown up" car or just looking to get out of smaller Honda's all together (and move to an EVO, Corvette, BRZ, M-car etc... something newer/nicer). Those who are willing to accept the penalties of a 2 door, hatchback are typically the folks who will just keep the ITR.

Indeed. Having owned an STi, an M3, and an Evo, I will tell you that those are horrible examples of "grown up cars"! Haha
Again, thanks for offering the answers, I was interested to see if I could skip a step with selling the RSX, but again, that's not the case. Question answered.

You couldn't burry me in an RSX... no way in hell I'd trade my ITR for an RSX, Type S or not, its still a boat in comparison. Hell, I wouldn't trade my DC2R for a DC5R.
One thing is for certain, you're not getting a straight up trade for an Integra Type R. That car holds more value than the Type S.
