2001 Accord Shift Slipping
Hi all. I am working on a 01' accord ex that's got about 126,000 miles on it and was just bought from a discount auto source center. The trans is slipping gears. It takes 1 or 2 seconds for it to grab 2nd gear, and sometimes it slips going into 3rd and 4th. The salesman said he was a Honda tech for 5 years and that it was a minor transmission problem. He said maybe the solenoid needed cleaning or the fluid changed. I did clean the solenoid, the first two that are merged together. It was filled with gunk. Just test drove it and it fixed nothing.
I don't know what to do now except change the fluid and im waiting on it to come in the mail.
So you guys think my transmission is trashed? I heard 2001 trans were notorious for clutch failures.
What would you do? Replace the transmission? Where should I get one if so? A remanufactured one?

That's what I was thinking too! Except without the cooler part lol.
I don''t really know if I should try and tackle this replacement even though I do have the pdf manual. Its for my sister, she has plenty of money for a repair shop to do it its just i don't know who to trust (which shop) to trust for the job. Some mechanics in my area cut corners and half-*** some jobs. I like that saying, "If you want something done right do it yourself." Even though I know there are many fine mechanics who give heed to that saying as well, I just don't know where they are. And the price of a removal/installation? I do not know what is a good price.

All in all, those year transmission are bad design no matter what; unless, you go 5spd. But since it's for your sister, just get used JDM trans for replacement seeing that they're not all that expensive.

As far as the chassis go I am fairly clueless, but the motor/transaxles are identical basically to the 4th, 5th, and 6th gen Accords. Unbolt the transmission from the flexplate, unbolt the shift cable, unbolt the coolant lines, disconnect the VSS and other controlling plugs, then unbolt the bell housing and it should drop right down.
All witty comments aside I'll let our disagreement about the turbo setup pass. I would just do the job yourself, they aren't too difficult to replace. But I am not one to talk about the 6th gens. Money or not, its always nice to save for something that can be done in a weekend.
