Default What is clicking in my civic EF door when I hook up battery?

In my 1990 EF and my 1991 EF civic hatches, when I hook up the battery, I can hear the doors click. It sounds like power locks, but the door locks are manual and never move.

I don't want to remove my door panel just to check a mystery, but did they install the power door locks in all doors, but only put electric switches on cars with "options"?

Funny you ask that because in my hatch I had a battery drain when I left the car off for a couple of days.... so i disconnected the battery and conected the battery and heard that clicking noise only on driver side door doe so I opened and the seat belt has some sort of solinoid or some thing so I disconnected it and my battery has not drained yet...... Sorry for the long story
So long story short it has something to do with seatbelt

I was pretty sure it was coming from the door...even had my friend listening at the passenger door while I connected the battery. The other poster also sounds confident that they located a solenoid inside the door.

I think it's safe to say that we are all right. You heard your main relay, and he has seen what I am hearing in my door. :D

jea noticed that awhile ago as well, i havent bothered looking into it but i dont think it would be the fuel pump relay... the noise can be heard from outside the car on the passenger side with doors and windows closed... this calls for a nation wide investigation for the cause of this noise! haha

I was hoping it was a partially installed power locks system. That would've made it alot simpler for me to add an alarm and just connect to the unused power lock system.

idk why yours doesn't click. idk why mine clicks..lol but it sounds like it is a seatbelt solenoid/sensor/something.

My cars are both hatches: '90 civic and '91 civic. both of them have clicking when I put the battery on.

When you enter the "EF civic" section of topics, don't click on someone's topic. Above everyone else's current questions, there is the "STICKIES" section. Immediately above the "STICKIES" section is a button that says "New Topic". click it

it's the seat belt pre tensioner in the door, some older Hondas had issues with them where they would stay on, and drain the battery

on your car, the power lock actuator will attach directly to your existing lock, in that sense the power locks and non power locks are the same, at least the mechanism is, the problem is, on some Hondas where they didnt have a power lock option, there is no clearance inside the door for that actuator motor, most Hondas with power door locks have a notch stamped into the door beam,to clear the motor, it's like this on third generation accords, hatchs and coupes dont have power door locks, because the door beam wont allow it, you might have the same situation, if you do, just get aftermarket actuators with rod pulls, thye are easy to install
