1999 Accord rear speakers not working
I'd appreciate any feedback on this issue. Thanks for reading my long story.
My Accord was hit by a deer square in the left passenger door. I have a 4DR, LX, 5-speed. There was also a small dent made to the left 1/4 panel.
I took it to the shop to fix. A few weeks later I noticed that the rear speakers were not working. Totally dead when fading the HU to the rear.
HU is after-market, wired correctly, has been working fine for 3 years.
All fuses are fine, but I don't think there are any fuses tied specifically to the rear speakers. The front speakers work fine, balance works fine.
I pulled the HU and checked continuity from the harness to the front speakers...GOOD. To rear speakers...NOT GOOD. No continuity. Pulled connector at rear speakers and checked continuity going forward to the harness...NO continuity.
The body shop is saying they pulled the front left speaker in order to paint the driver door. They also had to pull the left rear tail-light for painting the rear 1/4 panel.
Obviously there is a break in the wiring somewhere. What I don't know is if the wiring from the rear speakers runs together along the left side of the car OR if the speakers split sides. That would be helpful.
Any advice or help appreciated. I'm one step away from just running new wire myself and being done with it. Tried to get insurance to pay for it but they are saying it has nothing to do with the accident or body work.

Yeah, I probably will end up doing that in the end for the expense of it. $10 of wire and a few hours of my time.
It just bothers me that the body shop won't take any responsibility.
Get this: so I took the car to the body shop 2 days ago so they'd assess it and hopefully tell the insurance company that it's "possible" they screwed up my wires. So they checked it and, no-go, won't take any responsibility.
So I go to pick up the car last night and I have no brake lights. None. I checked them b/c somewhere on the web I read that if rear speakers go dead, it could be related to another component. So I drive home with my wife right behind me....rip the trunk apart and find that they never connected the rear tail-light. So I've been driving around for ~8 weeks with no tail-lights. I called the shop this morning and all I got was a "huh, sorry about that." It didn't fix my brake lights. I also noticed that they didn't pull battery power when they were working b/c my presets were not lost in the radio. They refused to listen that working on wiring or near wiring with battery power is not a good idea. Or that they should check all lights and instruments before they turn a car back over to a customer. Frustrating.

Do an open wire test to ground with an ohm meter. Unplug both ends with one meter lead to bear metal and the other to both wires to both sides. Inspect harness under carpet and kick panel. If your speakers are out what other hidden damage? Did you check the the rear outs on the deck??? Disconnect rear wires and use test speaker on deck output. Or rewire to front to test. If there's a short to ground deck might shut down both rear outputs. Could also just be bum rears out of the head unit.
I just lost my beloved 98 EX 5sp to a dear. Ran into it's butt as it ran out in front of me on dark road. Car still drove but insurance totaled it. Just hit 250K and still ran and drove great.

Great suggestion, thanks! I'm planning to re-run the wires but it would be good to know if it is in the HU. Since I didn't have continuity between +/- for either rear, I just assumed a break in the line and that the deck was good.
Other damage is a great call. So far, everything is working best I can tell.
Bummer about your Honda. I'm surprised they didn't total mine.

Get a AA battery and speaker wire. Hook the speaker wire to the speaker, - to - and + to +. Hook the other end of the wire to the battery, you can just hold it with your hands. If the speaker pops and jumps up and down , your speakers are still good and your wires are bad. Very easy fix to run wires
