OBD2b motor into OBD2a car
Ive looked around on this site as well as a couple others and have found it in other variations but none exactly like mine. I have a 96 civic dx, non v-tech which is obd2a and I am dumping a 2001 gsr motor which is v-tech and obd2b. I have the stock p72 ecu which I was planning on using in the civic unless it is easier/better to go another route. Is there a conversion harness that will make it "plug and play"? minus the wire for v-tech? if so, who makes it, and if not, whats the best way to go about it. Thanks ahead of time for any responses or links to any helpful information that will point me in the right direction.
Is the P72 OBD2A or OBD2B? Is it USDM or other? If its USDM it's going to have an immobilizer and you're going to run into some issues, not including needing an ECU adapter harness. If you can get your hands on a 96-98 USDM P72 you'll be better off and it'll be plug and play. You'll also need to add the wiring for VTEC, knock sensor and IAB's and convert the IACV from 3 wire to 2 wire. See my write up for more details:

the p72 is a USDM obd2b. Came from the same vehicle as the motor. If I am having hondata s300 installed, will it remove the immobilizer? not real clear on what the immobilizer is... thanks for the info...
You can't run S300 on an OBD2b ecu. And that ecu has an immobilizer. Convert it to OBD1 if you want to run the S300 and avoid the immobilizer. All the OBD2 electronics on the engine will be compatible w/o changing anything.
