90 EF wagon 4W Civic
Hi everyone,
I'm not familiar with the EF wagons as I am with the newer stuff.
Short story,
My cousin has a 90 EF wagon 4W Civic and wants to put a new engine in it as a daily, and not something to race around, just something new without problems.
so the question is what engines will go in without any issue?
These are the ones that I've seen on websites for sale these are not in any specific order.
92-98 D15B SOHC Vtec
96-99 ZC SOHC
96-00 B20B CRV 146hp/133 tq 99-00 9.6:1
98-02 F23A
01-04 D17A
94-97 F22B Accord DX
OK now with that being listed, I know a lot of these are pretty uncommon swaps besides the point, I want to know which ones will work with the least amount of additional hardware "different engine mounts / different axles"
Looking to stay OBD2 and not have to deal with wire harness bs, not looking for a special tune or even the ability to tune it, this will just be a daily.
Thanks,

Basically you didn't post anything that is a direct swap. Your easiest options from the above list are the SOHC VTec. Searching that swap will tell you everything it entails, but it will have wiring needs.
The Civic has one of the least wanted, abundant motors out there, basically most people interested in playing with their cars power and performance pull these motors out, there's no way you couldn't throw up a wanted ad online and not get a couple hits. A lot of people have these laying around with no future but that of being a boat anchor.
That will be your only safe option for a plug and play swap, the key is staying OBD0. Or finding a used OBD1 jumper, which is plug and play, may open a few more avenues for motor choices, depending on whichever is more readily available to you.

I'm looking for something that fits like a D17A mainly because its a new motor, the wire harness is 1 piece, it has an ecu. I would just need to wire the engine to the cluster and power and it would be done.
Sure its an uncommon swap, but really who cares?
If no one knows what needs to be done, then no one knows.

You stated in your first post that you didn't want to deal with wire harness BS. A d17 in that gen civic is going to require wire harness shenanigans.
Off the top of my head:

forget all those engines.
You need a D16Y7 found on Civic 96 and newer.
All the componenets in the engine bay will bolt to this engine w/o modifications.
Just use the long block and reuse all the mounts AND mount brackets from the D16A6, distributor ( bolts right in with all 3 bolts in place) intake manifold, exhaust manifold etc.
Easiest drop in, no fuss no mess, the wagon will never know you swapped the engine. I have done it a few times.
If all you want is a daily and you don't want to mess with changing OBD and distributors and injectors and wiring and ECU and what not the D16Y7 is the one. You use everything in the car already.
