Default can alternator go bad and no dummy light?

in the past i've gotten the batt light on dash when alt craps out

today, driving home from gym, radio starts going off and on by itself

usually this is a tell tale sign

so ,i pop hood and i have 11 volts at batt with engine running, should be 14, also 11 volts with engine off

but no dash light

no codes

Maybe that bulbs disconnected or burnt out. I'd still replace the alt. because if the low voltage. Also have the battery tested to make sure it's the problem or the battery hasn't been worked to hard

I'd check it to be safe. A lot of times a bad alternator will kill a battery from over working it

11 volts is ok but I'd charge it at least.should be 12v off.my battery is 12.75 volts off.. And ya autozone, pepboys or places like that can check it for free.

I had an alternator that would intermittently go bad with no warning light. Tach sputtered, lights were really dim and wipers barely moved. I put off changing it and the constant deep discharge of my battery significantly shortened its life.

mmmmmmmm, this may be normal, but i've never noticed it before

batt charged to 100%, new napa alt

when i start the car i have 12.5 v at batt

after about a minute at idle, the idle will drop down and i'll have 14.3v at batt after it drops

almost like something turned on

does the alt only cycle when it's needed?

i thought it was continuous output............

perhaps the volt reg is shutting it on and off since the batt is so well charged?
