Default new owner of 1989 Honda Civic si hatchback

Hey everybody. First time posting in this forum, and if I'm posting in the wrong section, my apologies.

Just purchased a 1989 Honda Civic si hatchback with 206k miles and 5 speed transmission. I don't know much about Honda (I'm a Geo Metro guy really) but am hoping to learn alot here. The car can scoot, that's for sure, and I hope to get at least low 30s mpg out of it.

Somebody put in different seats and made special brackets to make them fit. Don't know if they're from a Sol or some other model, but I'd rather go back to the originals. Has anybody ever had problems with the fuel injectors weeping fuel at shutdown? They appear a little damp and perhaps it's simply the o-rings.

Not sure how you could have missed the forum title for Civics with "1988-1991" in the heading, buuuutttt anyway. Now you know. Post moved.

Has one looked identical in 2001. Be glad you have the good seatbelt setup. I miss my 89si sometimes...

Actually, Geo Metros are some of the simplest cars to work on and get the best mpg for their resale value. This is a picture of my daughter's 93 and on a trip to Destin, FL from Columbus, OH we got 56.5 mpg. The comforts aren't there, but I can't knock the mpgs.

Unfortunately they rot out at the framehorns by 100k miles and don't handle carbon buildup too well.

I also like Volkswagen. Formerly drove a 93 GTI but now only have a Westfalia poptop camper van which is alot of fun to drive.

I hope to learn alot here.

welcome!

Low 30's mpg should be easy. These cars get worse mileage in cold weather, so expect better mileage in summer months.

Good condition original seats will be difficult to find. Any 88-89 hatchback seats will bolt right in. I *think* maybe 88-89 Civic sedan seats will bolt in also.

that Metro looks pretty sweet. What front lip is that?

Front lip is actually garden edging....the stuff people use for landscaping. Goes on pretty easy and probably has 10-12 small screws holding it on.

Okay everybody, I have another question regarding my car. I've looked everywhere but can't find the gas tank size. I ran it down to E today after a long highway trip (it was actually sputtering as I pulled into the gas station) yet I could barely cram 9 gallons in it. I've read on some sites it takes 10.9 gallons....others say 12. But is there a difference between the fuel tank capacity of the si sedan and the si hatchback??? Thanks in advance.
