I have a 91 rex with a d16a6. When it was running earlier tonight, i noticed a prominent valve tick and drove home from car meet. When i got home, the tick was much louder and it developed a misfire. I don't know which cylinder(s) it was misfiring on. I shut it off to grab my timing light, and now it won't start. A couple times when i turned the key to acc then run my dash lights came on as well as my radio (as usual), when i try to start it the starter didn't spin and everything shut off (as if the battery were dead, but it isn't). There is no CEL. I have no clue as to why it won't start.

Nov 2011-Battery and alternator
Aug 2012-Distributor, ignition rotor, distributor cap, (used) ECU
Feb 2013- NGK Ignition wires, Bosch spark plugs

 

pull cam cover & ck for valvetrain issue?

 

Timing issue? Maybe the belt slipped

 

check out the screw on the rotor inside the distributer cap, if that gets lose (like mine did) it'll do all sorts of funny **** like that

 

I figured it all out. It wouldn't start due to a bad connection on the negative battery terminal. Both the misfire and 'valve tick' were because of a broken spark plug. I replaced the connector for the battery and all four spark plugs.

As for the screw holding in the rotor, i have had my fair share of problems with it. It popped out in september and left me stranded on the side of the interstate...
