Default 1991 Honda Civic Hatch DX - Slow Build - Berto914

Got me this 91' last weekend for $1000 from a family member. It has a rebuilt D15 stock engine in it with abt 8K miles on it. The body has 184k on it. But it runs smooth. I love it. Mind u im 17 w/o license until next month. So its sitting in the driveway. I have some plans but im open to some ideas/opinions!!! I Really need some direction on where to get parts other than the yard. Its a SLOW BUILD because i qot a low paying job. But give me ideas Please! Well heres my baby when I 1st got her home. And this is what I have done in the past couple of days without a GARAGE

Good canvas to start!

Look for an EF9 rear centre piece(between the brake lights)

nice start with the paint/body work.

how are the brakes and suspension? i'd focus on that before adding power (swap/MPFI conversion/vtec head)

i love my old hatch, and i'll never get rid of my 90 CRX Si

function > fashion imo

the painted bumpers looks really nice, but focus on the actual functionality of the car

i noticed aftermarket exhaust on the car, does it sound ok? or is it too loud?

dynomat really helps back there, doesn't weight much and helps alot on sound deadening

just as everyone said focus on function there are many parts that are 20+ years old that might be worth replacing while youre under there

Yea im with u guys 100% but honestly i dont know too much abt cars, this is my 1st lol but i know ALOT of techs out here in Jersey and they gave me the "Ok" on tha Hatch. from what i was told, it jst needs some new brakes, prolly put a new timing belt, a oil change nd a new battery. everything else it good. Oh, and i was mistaken tha engine on has a little over 3k on it. previous owner paid 1,500 to get the d15 rebuilt and put in. so far no problems. so im waiting on a friend to get tha rims, springs & shocks. && as far as the paint its really starting to bother me without clear coat. so i was considering maaco eventhough i know their reputation. but i need a decent cheap job done...so might take it to make.....Stay Tuned! More to Come!

Yea once I have a better income she will be getting COMPLETELY built the right way and stored away for show. I'm currently in school to become an automotive technician then auto body/collision repair. until then. she will slowly get built! lol

and i work at a body shop, and i dont recommend maaco paint job at all. they are a tape and shoot company, you will have all of your dents still and paint will crack within a couple weeks

What did you lower it with? Dont expect a smoother ride once you have lowered it. Suspension geometry I have no clue about, but I do my research and know that i dont go with "fanboi" ****. Did you just lower it on springs? Remember that lowering on springs on old shocks is not gonna help your ride quality. I suggest you do research on finding the smoother ride combo for lowering your car. You must remember lowering is going to give you a stiff ride and you will feel the road as is having low profile tires aswell. A smoother ride would be just leaving at stock height.

To best thing for me to say for lowering your car and having a "smoother ride" is doing research google it. Lowering your car on springs will not help you achieve your goal.

just what he said. i think i would try extended tophats and cut springs for comfort and lows on a budget but i'm sure they would handle ****.

imo if you want a low ride, get a good set of adjustable coilovers and dont complain about bumps. that's what i did and i don't regret it one bit.
