Default Weird heating issues

Hi everyone,

Winter is around the corner where I live. I have a 99 civic EX D16Y8 made in the US. The problem I am having is that I have no heating.

My top radiator hose is hot but the lower one is cold. The funny thing is that the 2 hoses that go into the firewall are both hot . I dont get what might be the issue. The car is not overheating and its working at its normal operating temperature.

What I do see is that the temperature **** is a bit hard to move and when set on hot I can hear like water flowing (i dont know if that noise is normal on this car). Last but not least I see that my car needs to be topped with water from time to time, the overflow tank seems to get emptied.

Thanks!

thermostat is probably stuck

edit: and unless I am forgetting something, isnt the top hose being hot and the bottom hose being cool the way its supposed to work? i dont think that in itself is a problem, especially if the car is not overheating. check the thermostat, thats been a problem for me twice in hondas when the heat was either not working or not heatingup all the way

thermostat. heater core hoses bypass the thermostat, which is why they are hot.

Ok with that said I assume my problem is narrowed down into either of these:
- Thermostat
- Clogged heater core
- Bad water pump?

How come my car gets warm and even it does turn the fan from time to time if hot outside? If my thermostat was stucked I guess I should be over heating and if it was stucked open it shouldnt be getting up to the normal operation temperature.

im confused

your right , if thermostat is stuck closed it would over heat, stuck open it wouldnt allow to get to normal temp

If it's not overheating, I'd suspect the heater control valve. Did you check the radiator hose temperatures after the car had a chance to warm up?
