Default cost of an auto to manual swap? advice please?

hello...
i have a 95 civic..which i want to make manual..
first off please dont say just buy a manual civic..i like my car and im not tryna sell it anytime soon.so dont go there..

anyways my question is how much work will it be if i did this myself? i know shizz bout cars..but im willing to learn.

how much would parts be alone?

how much would it be if i bought the parts and had a shop do it for me?

also if anyone knows a legit shop in the bay area that can do it for a reasonable price id appreciate the hookup..

how hard is this swap? people make it look so easy but i doubt thats the case..

anyways thanks in advance..and again..i will not sell my civic for a manual one..

parts are about 1000$ range. About 1100 if you do it yourself.
3000 if you let a shop do it.
Its an easy swap just time consuming.
Look for a write up and judge for yourself

Parts vary a lot, if you buy a $300 - $600 parts car it's not bad at all. If you have to buy everything piecemeal it's usually not nearly as cost effective. I've done this swap a couple of times. Spent a little under $200 on parts the first time buying everything from a guy with a junked civic. Made money the second time buying a parts car and selling off what wasn't used. If you live in California chances are you wont get your parts nearly as cheaply as I did.

I really don't need to do the swap but it would make for a much more fun drive..all I plan on doing to my car is some performance parts...would my auto trams be able to take the extra hp? If so I don't need to swap

The auto trans probably can handle some modest power gains if you're just gonna do bolt-ons like an intake, exhaust, etc. But if you want to make any real power and have any fun driving your car, do the swap.

I, for one, refuse to ever own another car with an automatic transmission in it (maybe a drag car will have one). They are powered by black magic, they're huge and heavy, and they make driving just boring and monotonous.

However, if you're not mechanically inclined (which means good at working on stuff) then this is NOT the first project for you. Start with the simple stuff and get to know your car first. Then decide if you want the standard transmission or not.

Yeah that seems smart..and thank you guys for your advice.
I need to replace my alternator, brakes, and winshield wipers also..would that be something easy I can start on? Like I said I'm not mechanically inclined at all...I can hack an email in minutes but can't change my oil without mishaps haha.just so you get an understanding on how crappy I am with cars

If it helps all I plan on doing is lowering it,rims, tires, cai, fart can exhaust thing, and maybe headers.. If my auto trams can handle that then I'm good...but I'd still like to one dy make the swap

Bolt-ons on a D don't make any power worth mentioning. It's like peeing in your pants - you get a warm and fuzzy feeling, but no one else cares.

That's exactly why I said if all he was going to do was bolt-on's to keep the auto. They won't net enough power gain to do any harm to the automatic transmission.

Bolt ons don't get you a peppy car. Especially not with an auto. Better MPG maybe.

Here's what I recommend: get your hands dirty. Find things that need repaired on the car, and repair them.

Can't gain true knowledge without experience.

Once you know your way around a car, then you can tackle a job like converting transmissions. It's not as simple as just pulling the old one and putting the new one in. You need to know that you'll have to use other internal components like a new flywheel and clutch assembly. You'll have to be confident enough to alter the wiring to make things like the reverse lights work. You'll also have to swap or modify your ECU which can involve more work with sensitive electronics.

This isn't just a "dive right in" type of affair. Do your research, even though most of it's already been done for you. On another note, D-series transmissions are hugely abundant on local automotive forums and craigslist and can be had for a pretty decent price.

and im pretty good with the electriconics as i work on computers all the time.but will be a noob with car wiring.
ive read about three threads already about this..theres alot so it wasnt that hard to find info to read up on.but i will read alot more.and for sure i will try to learn my way around my car before doing such a big project.

$600-1000+
Remember you'll either need a ~$120 conversion mount, or to cut and weld on a manual trans bracket.

My friend did his conversion for ~$750, and mine will leave me in the ~$1000 range.
