Ef9 w/B16, how can I make it smog legal?
Can anyone help me with what I need to do to make my hatchback smog legal? I have a 91 hatch with a B16. The ECU and distributor are from the stock D16 so I believe it's still obd0. I also have 2" piping with a flowmaster exhaust and a resonator. I have a catalytic converter, I just don't know if it has to be one from Honda. I also have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
From what I understand, you will need at least obd1 conversion with 94+ del sol vtec ecu, distributor, and 4-wire o2 sensor. They are fairly strict in california.
Pull the b16 and drop in a b18a1 VERY easy to get through your referee. But you will have to include things like the charcoal canister and original ecu. Of course your stuck with a b18 then. but it doesn't take anything to LSvtec it after you pass your smog test.

Hard part is finding the Del Sol ECU.
Use the Del Sol charcoal canister and maybe (ask referee) intake manifold as well.
I thought the B16a on the front of the motor was a NO NO(not USA origin). If you had the b16a3(or other usa version) It was possible assuming supporting hardware. Still easier and cheaper to do a LS(b18a1) from a DA.
I have a BARd' B18C1. What you gotta make sure are the following. This is what I learned after a series of 4 Visits. Because the Ref can't give you all the answers as he is the ref. Make sure you have an OBDI ECU preferrably a P72 ECU.96 and up is OBDII. This is a whole other ball game. Highest you can do is OBDI as this is a whole other subject and OBDII is even more highly scrutinized. Make it easy for them to get to. Have you ECU panel unbolted. No rigged wiring. I reccommed a reputable jumper harness from Rywire. As some one else said, charcoal cannister. All your PCV hoses and any vacum related hoses buttoned up. A proper Catalytic. Make it easier on yourself. Have a quiet exhaust. If you have any aftermarket items, make sure you have the Proper C.A.R.B stickers for them. that is the stickers authorizing it's use on California High ways. C.A.R.B. means California Air Resources board. If you have the stickers, they will go to the CARB website and verify the product by picture. Examples of these are: an Intake & Headers. If you don't have CARB stickers or plates on the itmes. Don't go there with those parts on. They will dyno your vehicle. It helps to have a basic tune up, fresh oil, new cap & rotor. Make sure your specific motor is timed to the appropriate timing. Example: If's it's a 95 GSR motor, make sure the timing is set to the SPECs of a 95 Acura Integra GSR. Make sure you know what you have and stick to it. If you say you have a 95 B18C1 GSR motor than that's what it is. As some one else said, a pertinent O2 sensor. Have an open & cool attitude. Be willing to learn & stay outta their inspection area. Answer any questions they ask straight forward without hesitation. If you hesitate yadda yadda yadda they will further scrutinize your car. If your cool, they will be. They've done this hundred of times and have seen all the tricks. If you have any questions ask away and if I have the answers I will provide them.
