Default 2 Transmition questions

Hey guys I have a sir sc4 tranny and was looking to change out the oil on it. I have a the normal 3rd gear grind at high rpm and my first question is what's the best oil to use / change out. It is my dd and it's bolted up to a b20

Seconds question ...... 5th gear highway driving is nuts 120km/h @ just over 4000 rpm. So is ls 5th gear and option ? If so what does it take to make that happen

Thanks

Changing out 5th gear will get you an RPM drop/jump that you won't like, the inability to stay in 5th all the time, and likely worse mileage.

As for fluid, you need to have the transmission repaired now. Fluid will not fix it and if not repaired now, it will cost more to repair later. That said, use non-synthetic 10w-30, Torco MTF, or Torco RTF.

Really? I thought ls 5th would be better for highway driving because I wouldn't be reving so high.... I looked up what my transmission calls for , just Honda mtf would torco be better ?

an ls 5th gear with a b20 won't be bad on the highway, but the rpm drop from 4th to 5th would be very dramatic.

The only time I recommend Honda MTF is if the car is only driven by a very mild mannered grandmother and will never see the rev limit or any power.

just because you have an LS 5th doesn't mean it's going to drop alot. You have to take into consideration what Final Drive you have as well.

Aquafina knows that, he builds these things daily.

I did read into torco mtf and so far I thinking that is best I live just outside of Toronto, where would it be sold? Or do I gota order online ?

It's a sir tranny 4.4 final drive but I would probably end up being **** on highway runs now performance wise ? Ls fifth is a thought because 45 minutes straight to work everyday @4300 rpm in a complete gutted car and striaght pipe at 530am can sometime be a little annoying lol

FD does not affect RPM drop.

I would do a 50/50 mix of MTF/RTF or straight RTF since you live in a colder climate. MTF can be a bit notchy when cold.

You'll need to find a dealer in Canada. Due to shipping restrictions US dealers cannot ship it across the border.
