Lighter flywheel
^ this is true. you'll notice a only a slightly quicker rev when the car is in gear. it will also rev quicker when shifting up/down. but you dont want to ruin your synchros.... $$$
Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to net me any more speed. What kind of brands should I buy? I'm pulling the tranny out Friday for a rebuild and want to install everything at the same time.
well, i personally did a ton of research before getting mine. the main flywheels that you would be looking at would be made by exedy, fidanza, bisimoto, and competition clutch i think. i ended up going with exedy because its made of steel. the face of the fidanza flywheel is aluminum and even though it was cheaper, i know it wont last as long as the steel exedy. i didnt go with the bisimoto or competition clutch flywheels because they werent as reputable as exedy. when you pull the old one out, you will definitely FEEL the difference. LASTLY if you are planning on replacing the flywheel, you should also think about replacing the clutch kit as well. just so that you have two NEW surfaces to mate with each other.
the kevlar isnt worth it, in the end. yes it stands up to heat better, and yeas it will be a little lighter and more durable. but its just too much for a stock motor. also, if it ever over heats, then you're pretty much screwed. the surface of the disc will never recover if subjected to too high of a temperature.
