Any help with this is appreciated. I have a 97 civic manual with 120.000 miles. I have a hard time reproducing the symptoms - sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't.

After running some injector cleaner and changing the spark plugs i get a weird starter noise /sometimes/. Sounds like youre starting an already running car. This happens sometimes. Sometimes it has a hard time turning over.

I get extremely lousy miles per gallon - in town maybe 15.

When its cold and wet in the morning the engine would knock for the first minute or so. Once i'm going it goes away.

The car runs sluggish and idles poorly. Anything below 1000 and the engine rumbles heavily. If you turn on the AC its even worse.

I put in ngk cables, spark plugs and new distributor cap. Then i changed the fuel filter and the oil+filter.

When i did the oil i noticed it smells like gasoline and not just a little bit.

So thats pretty much it. thank you guys in advance!

 

any issues prior to working on it? almost sounds like your timing is off.

 

Ive had bad mpg for a while and it loses oil. Its rarely smoking and when it does its only for a second after a cold start and it looks more like moisture. Its not leaking oil either so im not sure whats happenin there. Im here at te market parkin lot idling n its good at like 7-800 with no rumbling then it gets gradually worse. So i tap the gas and it goes away for a while.

Whats frustrating to me is that there are no codes whatsoever. I figured maybe there was something wrong with the fuel system and i made it worse with the injector cleaner. Youd think the computer would tell you something when the engine knocks like hell.

It still has the original timing belt in it so thats way over due.
