gen2 -V leaking hatch glass - SOLVED
i searched here and at 2 CR-V forums for info on hatch glass leaks and found NOTHING. it seems second gen CR-Vs don't really leak. much.
anyway, i just got this car about a month ago and was washing it and noticed i had water coming in between the glass and weatherstrip on the tailgate. i went as far as removing the trim panels to adjust the latch without success.
you can see 'daylight' where i shined my flashlight against the glass. no amount of adjusting the glass made it go away. matter of fact, LOOSENING the hinges made it better. hmm.
i'd post pics, but i still seem to be too green to do so, but it turned out to be the hinges themselves. they were BENT somehow, allowing the glass to sit away from the weatherstrip. i could actually see them stick out. when i put the new hinges on, they laid flat and had no bulging. glass immediately closed against the weatherstrip as designed and the leak was sealed.

that's the worst. you do like you're supposed to and search the forums. you find the exact problem and you see where the guy dipped off the face of the earth after "i'm going to try those things and see if they fixed it"
then you're wondering... did he fix it or did he just decide to sell it to carmax?

I just bought a 2005 CR-V and I discovered the same issue while washing it the other day. The weatherstripping appears fine, but it just doesn't seal at the top of the hatch glass. I was considering buying a new OEM weatherstripping (looks like it would cost about $55 including shipping), but after reading this post I'm wondering if my issue might be the hinges as well. How exactly did you go about bending the hinges to get a good seal?
