Default CR-V TYPE R? I HAVE QUESTIONS

Hello

I have a 98 B18C ITR Motor/trans sitting around and I finally decided I need to put it in something. (CR-V SWAP)

I have been looking at 1st Gens of course and on paper it sounds like this could work as a swap.

Im coming to you guys because you would know best. Im sure its even been done as well.

Will the STOCK motor mounts work with the B18C? Would I have to do any engine bay modification?

Im wondering if the STOCK trans would mate up with the B18C and work? If so does the stock trans have LSD? If so would the LSD from the B18C work with the CRVs? (It came with a Quiefe Diff)

Also my main nightmare is WIRING? Would the ITR motor plug and play seeing its a close relative? And also would the ITR ECU work and play well with the car?

I have mostly EF knowledge so this Generation is new to me.

I really appreciate it folks. Anything helps.

Z

search... motor bolts up to the stock trans just fine. use the crv mounts or EK mounts. Type R trans wont just bolt in because it uses rods instead of cable linkage. If you want to use the type r trans, you have to swap in the whole shifter assembly and the rod linkage. All the wiring will work assuming youre using all obd2 parts (dizzy, alternator, ect). Only issue is adding the vtec wiring, which is easy.

Your right. I just think it would be cool. Plus kinda unique.

And yes it is a little heavy and the extra 50hp of the B18C is deff offset with being 1000 lbs more then the ITR. But I might throw a Jackson on it. So idk yet.

All in all I think this would be a neat project for me.

I am more inclined to keep the AWD tranny then go for a complete swap and be FWD. An AWD B18C would be sweet.

don't do it. Using the head on B20 end is your only option should you want to have some fun.

It's not just as simple as that. Don't forget that it's torque that gets heavy things moving. CRV is 133tq at 4500 rpms, ITR is 130tq at 7300 rpms. Low end is going to feel like a pig and you're going to have to rap it out like crazy to achieve the same amount of twisting power.

Yeah...your B18C5 motor is going to be useless in a CRV. You're gonna have to revv the **** out of it to get it to move. You need low end torque as i64X stated to move the CRV. Hell I have a B20 block with 12.1:1 pistions and a GSR head and I think it still feels slow. When Vtec kicks in you can hear it...but you can't feel it lol!!

b20 block 10.1 comp pistons
full itr head...

that was my set up before i went to the dark side...(boost!)
i had fun running n/a with that set up... i was spanking several civics w/ just B swaps,
wondering what i got under my hood! i just always say its just a vtec head on crv block...LOL!

LOL....I'm so jealous of all the boosted CRVs!! I'm on a tight budget right now so my spare motor is just sitting on my engine stand waiting for parts.

Qwrty have you dyno'd your setup yet and if so how much power are you making? Also are you still running the 10.1:1 comp pistons? That's what I was planning on doing too which is the reason why I ask. I just want to make a good 350whp, but I wanna know if the drive shaft will hold that much power.

creeping creeeping not moving. VTAK KICKED IN YOOOO!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!! oh **** ran a redlight...

ITR dont have low end torque and you are putting it on a transmission with long gears

you might break a top speed record with it but it will take you 2 days to reach it

sell your ITR swap
buy some high compression pistons and gsr head keep stock gsr intake manifold and send the head to get ported.
put bigger cams and tune it.

you will be beter off with a b20 vtec than itr motor

I think it would be a cool project. However, I agree with most on here, just do a B20VTEC. That itself is pretty cool and rare for a CRV to have.

Actually a B20 Transmission is geared similarly to a GSR or B16(forgot which it's closer to) so the gears aren't long at all. It's the AWD system along with the heavy chassis that will bog you down.

Can you get the 5th gear from a LS tranny into a 4wd CRV tranny? isn't it longer and would get you better mileage on the highway?
