94 del sol si check engine light 41 help!
Okay I have a 1994 del sol si with a d16z6 it is off the road right now for winter. I went out and started it up today and after about 3 min maybe my check engine light came on. So I jumped the plug thing and I think I got 41 but I'm not a hundred percent sure about that it could be 5. How fast after the long flash does the short flash come? But if it is 41 which I'm thinking it is that's the o2 sensor heated circuit. Is that anything I should worry about? Thanks in advance and my car has about 155000 rebuilt top end about a year ago and just a cai and cat back exhaust.
So you are saying that 4 flashes are the same duration and one is faster? if so yeah 41 and it repeats itself. You have to convince yourself by watching the codes repeat themselves. IMO the short flashes are a little less than a second and the long about a second and a half (thousand one, thousand 2 etc)
If its for the 02 sensor I would replace it with a good used one asap.
You can easily find one here on h-t marketplace or fleabay. Yeah you can run the car with a faulty o2 sensor but it will affect your gas mileage and engine in the long run.

Well I got a o2 code about two years ago and replace it went right away after that I don't think I have two o2 sensors do i? I wouldn't think the new one would be bad this fast. My car has been sitting for about 3 months because of the winter her in NY if the gas went bad would it cause me to get a o2 code because it would be running funny because of the bad gas?
Yeah you only have one 02 sensor, 3 months is not long enough for gas to go bad unless it was bad to begin with but this is not the case. check to see if it is loose or has melted or cut wires.
Remove and check with multimeter, I believe if you google how to check 02 sensor you will find what you need. Or borrow one.

Well I actually am going to school for auto tech and we just learned about testing them the other day I didn't even think about that for some reason. All you do is hook a multimeter up to it and heat the end with a propane torch and the meter should go up to about 1 and when you take the heat of it will drop pretty fast to 0. Thanks man I will let ya know what happens with it when I test it might be able to get to it tomorrow.
Thanks for tip on the propane torch and meter to test I will try to incorporate it sometime. I learn something new just about everytime that I am here on H-T
Before you spend $60 on the O2 sensor take the heat shield off the exhaust manifold and look closely at the exhaust manifold runner from number 2 cylinder just right of the O2 sensor location. This is a common spot for the manny to get a hairline crack and will cause a cel 41 because it effects the O2 reading. Happened to my 93 del sol si D16Z6. Heard it's common.
The crack is very small and will curve around the back of the manifold.
I just got a $60 ebay header w/ collector pipe. I had already replaced the O2 sensor but the problem didn't go away. Itwas the crack that was the problem.

Thanks I will check that out as soon as I can my car is at my parents house and i pretty much live with my gf I might go there today idk yet. I'm kinda hoping its my exhaust manifold now I want headers and that's the perfect excuse. What are some good headers? Some one told me once that depending on what you get like 4-2-1 or 4-3-1 they all do different things what do they do performance wise? I know it's not gonna give me much but I just wanna know what the difference is between them. I don't wanna get anything off eBay I have only read bad things about that stuff and before I started reading H-t I got a cat back off their and it sucks hanger don't line up or anything I hate it.
The ebay header is fine for the money. Header won't do much for a stock engine anyway. Get a ebay cold air intake system for $40 and together they'll give you a slight increase in gas mileage.
The alignment issue with exhaust equipment that I experienced is that the exhaust pipes are normally the last thing hung during a installation.
Therefore all the slack need to make everything line up is easy to achieve by flexing the unhung exhaust pipe a little bit before hooking up the rubber hangers.
When I put my header on I first bolted the loose header to the block. Than I hooked the loose collector pipe to the header. Than I used a lever bar and a C-Clamp to squeeze the exhaust pipe to the collector pipe enough to get the spring loaded connecting bolts started for a few threads. I was too lazy to drop the exhaust pipes or temporarily hang them loose with wire to make the alignment easier.
The header comes with new gaskets so it's a deal.

Well I just bought this I know it might not fix my problem cuz I haven't figured out exactly what's wrong yet but I wanted them.

Yeah that should be fine. I think the 4 2 1 is good because it closely resembles the flow characteristics of a stock exhaust only a little better.
Use some playtex gloves when you handle it and take it out of the box and install just to keep fingerprints off it. It's going to look pretty for about a month than turn steely blue.

So I tried to test my o2 sensor and got no readings off it. I'm going to bring it to school with me tomorrow and have my teacher test it for me. I will let ya all know how it goes
