Default What model is my car?

Hi all,

This is my first post, so I thought it would be good to start out with a really rookie question.

I have noticed across the forum different users identifying there cars as a model code, like.... EP3, EK5, ES2 etc.

What do they mean?

My car is a 2002 civic 1.6 vtec (7th gen I think)
With standard bumpers and interior, I think it may be an EP3?

Or is it?

look in your vin, if the 4th,5th and 6th numbers are EP3, then indeed that is what you have.

You don't have an EP3.

EP3 is a 2door hatchback and has a K20 under the hood, you have a D16.

As mentioned, you can just check your VIN.

Where are you located, depending where you are the chassis code are different. In the US we have EM2, ES1 and EP3. Check the FAQs for more info.

Nice one,
Thank's all for the feedback!

I live in the uk.
just took a look at my vin No, the 4th, 5th and 6th digits are EP2.

And from what (It Wasn't Me) said i guess my engine is a D16.

My engine goes into the red at about 6,300 rpm on to 8,000 rpm.
I keep seeing different drivers shifting well into the red, is this because their engines have been tuned to do so, or are vtec engines happy to rev into the red?

Oh and at what rpm should vtec kick in?

You have an EP2 which is a model not sold in here in the US.

It should be called a Civic Sport and is a 3 door hatchback (like the US Civic Si or your Civic Type R) but only has a 1.6L engine, specifically the D16V1 (SOHC VTEC).
