Default D16Z6 Installation problems

I installed a D16Z6 that passed a leak down test. Engine looked as if it was rebuilt, clean inside and out. I installed the engine, hooked all the coolant lines up and started the engine. It sounded nice and tight. Started filling it with water to test for leaks. Again engine ran great. After a few minutes I noticed a different sound. I stopped the engine and checked the dipstick. Water had somehow got into the engine. I checked the coolant lines and they looked per the illustration downloaded from the internet.
I suspect I hooked something up wrong but not sure how I can cross connect water and vacuum lines. I don't know it I need a head gasket or flush the system out and re-connect the lines again. I am broke and really need my ride to get to work. Can anyone help me. 1995 Civic EX Coupe, ABS, D16Z6.

Check that you didn't cross a coolant line with a PCV or vacuum line. If you are sucking water into the intake you could hydro lock the engine and bend rods/valves break all kinds of crap. That could be the "different sound". Did any steam or water come out the exhaust?

hopefully thats ll it was. if u sucked coolant thru a vacume line u hydro ocked the motor most likely... goodluck look for coolant in your intake manifold when u tear it down. spin the crank over and make sure the pistons come to the top of the block.
