Default Getting the alternator pulley off a '91 Si.

I recently received an Unorthodox Racing crank and alternator pulley set for my '91 Si. The other weekend I went to get these pulleys on and started with the alternator. I got the alternator detached from the motor, only to find out that there is NO room, either from the top or the bottom, to pull the alternator out. The only way I could see getting it out is either by removing the axle or pulling the left side motor mount with hopes to move the motor enough to pull it out from above. Neither of which I had time for. So, I tried my best to pull the stock pulley off with it still in the bay. I tried my best to hold the pulley with a large set of channel locks and use a nice big SnapOn air impact gun to break loose the bolt. There was just no way that thing was going to budge. I couldn't get a real good grip on the pulley with the channel locks due to lack of space. Plus the nut holding on the pulley seems to have a fair amount of surface rust(I sprayed it with penetrating oil before trying to remove it..).

So, anyone have any ideas on how to remove the nut from the alternator? Specifically, with it still in the engine bay? Worst comes to worst I'll pull the axle out as I think I'll need to replace it soon anyways. Just trying to avoid that at all costs right now..

Thanks for any input!

if that don't work and a impact wont bring it out you can pull the axle out and get the alt out pretty easy, if you never pulled a axel before you can do it pretty easily in about 10-20min depending on how stubborn the ball joint is. (axle nut bolt, bottom ball joint and pop the axle out of the tranny with a flat-head or small pry bar.) if you want to completely remove the axle instead of just sliding it sideways you can pull the one bolt holding the shock to the control arm as the axle wont fit through the wish bone.

BUMP.

I suppose taking the BMC off would be a bit easier than removing the axle.. Still open to any ideas as far as getting the alternator out and also removing the pulley nut.

Thanks!

In the three days you waited for someone to tell you an "easy" way to get the alternator out, you could have just taken it out an been done with it.

lol, doesn't take that long to take the axle out, or out from the hub which is really all you need to make room. you already have the car up, cause that's the only way to get to the bottom bolt of the alternator.

Meh,I always leave brake lines on MC and unbolt the 2 bolts holding it on booster + "swing" it out of way of alt coming out thru that hole...

Thanks for the smart response. What you don't know is that I'm in no rush to get this done. UR sent the wrong belt for the kit so I'm waiting for them to correct that. The car also sits during the week since I work and rarely have time to mess with the car between work and now races on the weekends. So in the mean time, you know those 3days or w/e, I was just looking for some ideas and input from people who have done this. I've r&r'd dozens of axles, I know it doesn't take a whole lot of work or time. But it is still something I'd like to avoid doing if there's another way.
