Hello everyone,

I'm planning on buying a Honda Accord V6 as soon as my paycheck arrives. Sadly, I haven't been paid in an entire month. Happens to often when you're an independent contractor.

Anyways, I've quite a few Honda's in my earlier days. Now I'm loving the 2013 Honda V6's. I just have to get one. Yet, I'm not at a position just yet to walk into a Honda Dealership and drive home with a brand new Honda Accord.

So, I've turned to the buy here pay here lots and one particular lots has like 3 Honda Accords V6's. I'm planning on driving one of these cars until I can move and get into a better neighborhood where I feel comfortable parking a new car.

Yet, I've been reading about Honda's transmission problems on the Accord. I'm really scared because I just had to let go of my Saab because the transmission went and the cost of repair/replacement was more than the car itself.

Are the transmission problem only related to the manuals or are they related to the automatic's. I refuse to buy another manual used car because I've had nothing but problems. Never had these issues with an automatic. I thank you for your opinion.

Think its more on the end of the Automatic trannys. If you have semi-advanced mechanical skills you can usually rebuild a manual tranny, not to mention a new one can be purchased for anywhere around 250-400$ if yours breaks for whatever reason. The early 2000's Accord V6's are awesome, although the mid/late 90's V6's were chunky and did not perform anywhere near the next model up.

Welcome to the forum.

Some on here might argue that the automatic transaxle's found in the accords are garbage, and others swear by them. It really depends on A. How you drive B. How you maintain it C. What you do to the engine.

Per preference i prefer manual transaxle's over automatic. They hold to more horsepower and torque, and there is a lot less to go wrong with them than an automatic. Not to mention less power loss to the wheels and better fuel economy.

As far as the v6 transaxle's go, I'm not sure how they are, i do know the 90-97 four cylinder transaxle's can be quite touchy, but are highly reliable if maintained regularly and taken care of. Personally, to me, when it comes to buying automatic or manual, it boils down to what you are going to do with said vehicle, and most of all, what your preference is.

Thanks everyone.

I'm planning to use the vehicle as a daily driver and I haven't had the best of luck with manual cars. Everyone that I brought has has issues with the admissions. I've yet to buy a used car and have a transmission issue including all 4 of the Honda Accords that I've brought.

I'm only planning to keep the car for about 3 or 4 years enough time for me to upgrade to the 2009 Accord V6. Then after about 5 or 6 years after that, I like to upgrade to the 2013 model once I've judge that they are reliable cars and I've moved into a good suburban apartment.

I just graduated with my Master's degree in Accounting and I just passed the Special Enrollment Exam in order to become a IRS Enrolled Agent. I'm banking on my experience as a tax accountant, my education and my license to practice before the IRS will open doors of opportunity for me.

I wanted a BMW but I'm slowly returning to Honda Accords since I've seen what they have done to the 2013 model. It's miles away from the BMW and I kind of feel like the BMW is like an Apple Iphone. They do very little to the appearance but add a couple new features and call it new. But that's another topic.

Thanks again

Dig the masters in Accounting and the IRS interest. My mother is a SBSC IRS agent and she loves it.

Mid 90's and early 2000's Honda Accords have excellent track records with the manual transmissions, with proper maintenance they will last FAR longer than the automatics ever will. Either way, you shouldn't be disappointed. Welcome to HT as well.
