Default New to the ef game few questions.

Ok so I just picked up a 90 ef hatch with a b16 in it. The kid was an idiot and had no clue about the car. When I got it nothing on the cluster worked. Well after messing with it I got the speedo to work and after hard wiring the tach I got that to work. The only thing I can't get to work is the temp gauge and vtec. I checked the wiring for the temp sensor and it's all good and traced the wiring for vtec because its hard wired to the ecu and that's correct. The car isn't throwing any codes. So I'm wondering of the cluster is screwed up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

cluster wouldn't cause the vtec issue. coolant temp to cluster is the one wire sensor on the head. check continuity

Ill check it. Just a random thought could the ecu not recognizing the car is warmed up be an issue. I've never really gotten my hands into a ef. Just eg's for years with me.

If you have the ground to the body ( hardwired) then it will engage no matter what temp.but if not then yes

Yeah I'm gonna have to go thru the whole wiring harness on this car. Someone attempted to do a wire tuck on it and **** fucked it all up.

Hey, here are a few docs you may or may not have. I have an obd1 engine in my ef and these two docs helped me a ton in the wiring department.

Is your setup obd0 or obd1?
